Following a long journey to the Isle of Skye we were greeted with the magical sight of Fairy Glen Cottage with its thatched roof and beautiful stonework nestled in to the backdrop of the hillside. It looked absolutely delightful as we drove up the driveway. On entering the cottage we couldn’t believe how spacious it was and how well everything was laid out. The dining sized kitchen was fully equipped with everything needed for our stay with built in appliances etc., right down to the coffee percolator which we found most useful. The patio at the rear of the house had an 8 seat patio set and table which we used to full advantage on the better days. It is ideally situated for touring the island with the Trotternish area including the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr nearby. The island maps, walking books and tourist information leaflets in the cottage provided us with a wealth of interesting information which ensured we had plenty to do and see during our stay. The quaint village of Uig is only a mile from the property and is ideally situated for groceries, fuel etc. We were sorry to leave at the end of our holiday, but we left feeling relaxed, refreshed and extremely happy that we had stayed at Fairy Glen Cottage. For us, it will always remain in our memories as a fantastic location to have a holiday and we will certainly recommend it to all our friends and family. Tranquility indeed.
From the moment that we booked this lovely cottage, until the moment that we closed the door for the last time, the Fairy Glen Cottage provided all that we would have hoped for! The Islands and Highlands property managers kept in close contact with us to ensure our enjoyment of the property. Furthermore, the cottage itself was AMAZING! It was immaculately cared for, the view was stunning, the location was central to the hikes that we enjoyed, and the living room area was a cozy setting for reflecting on each day of fun. We made our meals each evening in the updated kitchen, and we appreciated the variety of spices, kettles, and utensils available for making a tasty meal. It was a top notch experience from beginning to end! We hope to return to Scotland some day in the future, and we would LOVE to enjoy this thatched cottage once again!
We loved our stay at the Fairy Glen Cottage. It was a bit of a splurge over the Premier Inns we stayed in elsewhere, but definitely worth it.
We had the good fortune to meet the owner when we stayed and he couldn't have been nicer. He had come by to check on some improvements he was making and he told us a little about the cottage and the area. He has a great selection of travel guides inside with interesting sites bookmarked. I believe he said that the cottage was built from the remains of a traditional old stone blackhouse that had been in his family, but don't hold me to that.
The cottage is just a short walk from the Fairy Glen which we visited several times on our trip. We walked the other way down the road one evening and were treated to an amazing sunset over Uig.
The exterior of the cottage is charming with the stone and the thatched roof and the interior is modern, light and airy. The beds were comfortable. The living room/lounge has a nice gas fireplace to take the chill off in the evening. The kitchen was well appointed and we ate in most meals. It was really perfect. I would definitely stay here again on a return trip to Skye.
