“5 Star Hostel for a reason!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2012

I stayed at this hostel during a tour of the Scottish highlands and Skye. After staying in quite a few hostels I have to say the cleanliness and roominess in this hostel was very refreshing. It was not really busy when I stayed there and that was fine as there was no line up for the shower! Overall this is a great hostel, decent price, and close to stores in Portree so you can do your own cooking! There is a reason the Scottish tourism board gave it so many stars! You can have luxury even in a hostel ha ha. Definitely would stay again.

A good base I guess, I spent 2 nights here in 4 person female dorm. The view from the eating area is just fantastic. You have to pay for wifi (2 hours worth of it I believe). Showers are nice and hot but one of them was plugged and I didn't know. Ended up flooding the entire bathroom and almost someone's room! Mopped that up for 30 minutes at about midnight one night. There's a lock out time during the day that they failed to tell me about which was slightly inconvenient, but not the end of the world of course. Just at my lunch on a picnic bench outside the hostel. Staff is very friendly! Rooms were clean and the beds were comfy. There's a great bakery really close by, literally 2 minutes away.

Friendly service, very clean, lovely dining room with great view, good kitchen, awesome showers, nice rooms, a nice small hostel, good value with a great location in the centre of portree close to bakery, restaurants, supermarket and shops. Very much enjoyed staying here for 2 nights. Stayed in 4 bed dorm. Walked away feeling refreshed and clean which is always a good sign i believe! Only very small minus was that there was no lockers provided in rooms but I didn't feel there was a problem with this as the rooms as each room and entry to hostel was secured with key pass and it felt very safe in hostel and portree.

Bayfield's a good base to stay over when exploring Portree & the Isle of Skye. It's very clean, well-located and has a really nice kitchen to cook in. We met a friendly Ian who shared cooking tips and Skye's attractions. Just round the corner is a bakery- Great for quick breakfast take-aways of yummy pastries & bread rolls to eat in the cozy, wooden dining room in Bayfield while gazing at the rainbows outside the window. (Skye's known for an abundance of 'liquid sunshine'!) The toilet was spacious in our room for 4 and there were square metal crates stowed under the bed for storing one's bags. There were hooks around the room for those bulky coats too. I'd wish for a bigger mirror and more hooks in the toilet to hang those towels & clothes. But on the whole, it was a good deal and a lovely place to rest one's feet.

This is one of the best backpackers I've stayed in UK so far. Not that it looks particularly special comparing to others, but for some reason they manage to do everything right, from the spacious dining room to the powerful showers and clean bathroom and not to mention the comfortable beds. I slept so well there it was simply amazing. The staff are very friendly as well. I honestly can't pick anything to criticise. Last but not least very good location (in the middle of town) plus a nice view to the bay in the dining room. I couldn't recommend this backpacker enough.

Room Tip: There could be some double bed even in the dorm room.

Very, very well located (few blocks away from supermarket, pubs, restaurants, shops, ATM, etc.). A wonderful view from the dinning room/ kitchen. The rooms are clean (no wood is used, so no chance for bugs!), showers have a nice pressure of hot water (especially after a whole day outdoors!). Only area for improvement, in the kitchen I would label trash cans more clearly for recyclables vs. organic trash. And for the rooms, I would add pegs to hang clothes, specially to dry them after a rainy day! Overall, good value for money, so give it a try!
