There is a sign in the chippy saying they fry in animal fat. I loved it, but vegetarians may not be so wild about the idea.

I much prefer to write postive reviews, but in the case of "Stuart's Fish and Chips"....sadly I can't.
If you are reading this as a local you may well get an adequate service, but I recount our experiences last week as visitors to the town and this establishment.
Central location means the shop must get a lot of passing trade from tourists and looks reasonable from outside for this type of take away, so my wife and I ordered our food and chatted to the lady who served us. Very obviously we were visitors and asked her to wrap the meals as we said we were going to eat the food in a few minutes en-route back towards the bridge.
So far, so good for a chippy. We drove back along the coast, parked up and opened up the food. My fish and chips were ok, (but I had had far better fish in Orkney from the chip shop near the harbour in Kirkwall). But my wife's scampi had very clearly been in the fryer for a very very long time and had been cooked to oblivion. Inedible.
If we were still in the town, I'd have returned to complain....but of course the proprietor at "Stuart's" knew we weren't going to be anywhere near when we opened up his food. Was it coincidence that food that should clearly have not been served to customers was passed of to us tourists?
So based on this experience I would recommend visitors stay well clear of this take away. On way back to the car we saw another Fish and Chip shop near the harbour, but I see reviews for that are also mixed.
As the title says: "Poor Portree" deserves far better as there is no reason why the fish and scampi should not be fresh and excellent from a takeaway in a fishing town!
