“Excellent value.”

Great atmosphere , very good service and massive fish and chips. Good variety of meals and good beer. Very friendly and usually full so be prepared to wait 20 minutes or so for a table. We ate there on each of our 3 nights on Skye!

“Outstanding pub food.”

We had been looking for good pub food and hit the jackpot at the Isles Inn Pub. Super chicken curry and steak and ale pie.

“Not what it used to be”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

Last time I stayed in Portree, around 4 years ago, I visited the Isles almost every night for its atmosphere, its fantastic food, and its local beer.

Now I first want to point out that I know the staff there, including the landlord, try very hard. Unfortunately they now only have a couple of beers, and these are from Yorkshire (including the "isles inn bitter". It seems the brewery/managing agent may have stopped the sale of local beer.

With regards to the food. We both had the steak pie, which did taste good but the pastry topping was cold, and I don't mean it had cooled down after cooking. It was ice-cold like it'd just been whipped out of the fridge. Upon asking for it to be heated up, we were told "it's supposed to be like that" before we were allowed to explain further.

I hope the staff are able to get this place back to its former glories but I fear they may be under unbreachable pressure from above.

Thankyou for leaving us a review and I totally agree with what you say. We, for a short time were 'allowed' to sell Isle of skye brewery beer (we are a tied pub) The Brewery then moved the goalposts and said we could not sell it, we choose our real ales from the list sold by the brewery BUT as the Company are in England there are not alot of choices for Scotland! We choose Black sheep which is from Yorkshire as it is a good pint and isles ale which is made for us by tetleys. We feel these are our best choices from an extremely limited list. We have asked continuously for more scottish and local choices to no avail. I note your comments about the steak pie and will speak to the wiating staff but you are quite right the pie lid should have been hot as well. Apologies again and hopefully we shall see you again.

“Amazing veggie 'fish' and chips”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

As a veggie, I often get fed up when people assume I eat fish. The Isles Inn must be aware of this and have created a stunning real veggie option, amusingly named veggie 'fish' and chips. Basically it is a couple of generous chunks of halloumi cheese, deep fried in batter and served with chips and peas. In terms of calories and fat it is probably a heart attack on a plate but it tastes divine. Definitely the nicest pub meal I've had (twice recently) since becoming veggie.

“Great food & traditional atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

Visited Skye recently & stayed in the Portree area. The Isles was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. We had a short wait for a table, during which time we began to sample some of the many real ales on offer at the bar. We ordered the Cullen Skink as a starter. Really, it would have sufficed as a main course because the bowl was huge, as were the "doorstops" of fresh bread which came with it. Anyway, we'd already ordered mains. They were equally generous portions. Food & service were great. All in all, if you like a more traditional no-frills meal with free local entertainment, look no further....!
