“I've seen better”
Reviewed July 12, 2014

Dunvegan has all the location and history to be spectacular but it's extremely underwhelming at present. There aren't very many rooms open to the public and many of them are in a dilapidated state. Having been through castle country out in Aberdeen I was expecting much more. If you're going to visit stay outside, the grounds are lovely. There are many better castles to pay to tour nearby.

“All right chief?”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

We've done the castle thing before and found them to be ok. Just. Dunvegan is different. It has it all, pretty much. One gripe was the cinema showing the history on the silver screen is tucked away down in the ancillary area. I suppose if there was a more suitable area upstairs closer to the door it would be there. The Chieftain of the clan McLeod lives here with wife and son, and what a location. The castle with its various open rooms, with more to follow, are interesting and well set out for tourists, but the gardens on a SUNY day are the crowning glory. A beautiful place to visit, and a pleasure, I imagine, to live in such a gorgeous part of our planet.

“Great day out”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

Visited Dunvegan Castle on a stunning hot day. ( They do happen on Skye ! ) had a very interesting tour and learned much about the McLeod dynasty and the famous visitors they have had over the years. Lots of history and some interesting facts and artefacts relating to Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora Macdonald. Gardens were in full bloom and were a delight to spend some time in, especially the walled part. All in all well worth the admission charge.

Wonderful day out at the castle. Lovely welcome at the entrance, very informative guides throughout the rooms. Lots of information on the history of the MacLeod clan and many interesting artefacts.
Garden is astonishingly beautiful if you're lucky enough to visit on a fine day!
