“Best B&B Ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

Tigh an Dochais is the best B&B we ever stayed at: spacious beautiful modern design, the best view ever through big floor to ceiling windows from each of the bedrooms, great breakfast, lovelly facilities with floor and towel heating in the bathroom and a cackling fire and tea ready in the common room (living room) when you arrive in the evening . We had booked a couple of nights and ended up staying a whole week. Neil is the perfect host, never intrusive, very kind and always helpful and knowledgeable, when you ask for information. We felt like we had been on a three weeks holiday instead of one. There are lots of good books in their library and even binoculars in the room, to spot the wildlife in the bay. And if you need a guide to go for a walk or trek, you can borrow it there. If we are ever back in Scotland, we will be back.

This B&B really does stand out from others. It is very modern, clean and the views are stunning. Our room had the perfect amount of space and the bathroom was quite large and nice. The little amenities here make such a big difference - locally made bubble bath and lotions, lovely teas, chocolates, etc. We really did enjoy our time here. And our host, Neil, was very helpful and knowledgable when it came to the area. He suggested a couple places for us to go and he helped us find our way to other places. And the breakfast is truly outstanding - I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Neil was a trained chef.

As a couple other people mentioned, the wood floor upstairs is creaky so you will either want to bring earplugs if you want to sleep in later or you will probably wake up at 7am unless you are a sound sleeper. It wasn't a problem for us because we typically wake up at 7 anyways. Plus, it's so quiet all night that you are able to sleep well. The only problem we had was that the bed in our room was lumpy but that could have just been in our room and it's an easy fix.

I'd definitely return to Tigh an Dochais!

My husband and I travel for work, frequently staying away from home. We visited Tigh an Dochais this weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and agreed that it is one of the best places in which we have stayed. The location is great; ceiling to floor windows in the bedroom look out to magnificent coastline scenery (the same view can be enjoyed whilst showering in the impeccable bathroom). The room was large, comfortable and well-equipped; a variety of well-considered refreshments on offer. Neil was a great host who succeeded in being friendly and informative, without being overwhelming. The guest lounge is very comfortable and full of books and comfy chairs - we could have stayed in there all weekend! Overall the house is very clean, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. However, the most enjoyable part for us was the food! Neil cooked a superb meal for us on Friday night, which had obviously taken time and considerable skill to create. The breakfasts are to die for; including freshly home-cooked bread and muffins, fruits, yogurts, smoked salmon and a full cooked breakfast on offer. We would not hesitate to recommend this b&b and hope to return again this year.

We actually stayed here a couple of years ago in July but neglected to write a review. We plan to return (hopefully soon), and we wanted to share that this B&B is exceptional. The other positive reviews are spot on. Neil was especially helpful with us when we were planning our trip from the U.S. and very responsive to our questions via email. The weather was fantastic for hiking. From the food to the details in the rooms to the knowledge of the hosts (thanks again, Neil) on local hiking, dining, etc., you will enjoy the experience of Skye and the surrounding area more fully by staying here!

The Tigh an Dochais certainly is a 5* B&B. The room was a great size, with it's own decking out onto the beach and large bathroom. The pillows, duvet and towels were of a high quality. There is under floor heating too!
There are a couple of restaurants locally and a supermarket. Neil will be able to tell you anything you need to know about the area and for your onward journey.
We woke to the most amazing breakfast on display, we thought that was it until Neil asked us what we wanted! I had to try the local sausages, which were cooked to perfection.
Thank you for a great stay Neil!

we are not fans of B&B but thought we would try Tigh an Dochais because of the reviews.I am glad we did.Neil made us very welcome with coffee and home made treats on arrival.
The locational is perfect for visiting the Cuillin Hills and other areas of Skye
We had smoked salmon for breakfast and smoked haddock another morning. please try the Stornoway black pudding with your traditional Scottish breakfast.I only wish we had ordered dinner for Neils cooking is superb.
The bedrooms and bathroom are tastfully decorated comfortable and large and the view from any area of the house is spectacular.
