“Close to nature”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

We stayed at Allt a Choire for one night after lots of travelling and were relaxed as soon as we had seen our room. There is a separate entrance and our double room was large, new and clean with tea, home-made shortbread and a TV. The room was facing the hills at the back of the house and it was great to spot wild animals in a distance. We even borrowed the binoculars to watch them. The only thing was that the bathroom was small, due to the milky window a bit dark and the shower takes a bit to get warm, but once it has run for a minute the water is hot, so not a problem. The B&B's guest lounge is facing southwards and has a beautiful modern fireplace, honey-coloured exposed wooden beams and a huge window overlooking the hills. You can see grazing sheep and wild rabbits in the morning while having breakfast. The Scottish breakfast was abundant and there was also fruit juice and a colourful fruit salad with melon, strawberries and other fruit. Irene shared taxi numbers with us and was very helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to write your recent review. I am so glad you both enjoyed your stay at our home Allt a Choire. We have a lot of wild life in our garden and surrounding area, I am glad you were able to see more by using a set of the binoculars available for our guests to borrow. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday on Skye. best wishes Irene & Andy

This was my first visit to Skye, my husband had visited many many years ago and had wanted me to experience the wonderful scenery. We arrived for our 2 night stay at Allt a Choire and after being welcomed by Andy soon realised we should have been staying for at least 4 or 5 days, and this was even before we had met Irene and sampled the lovely breakfasts! We were grateful to Andy for lending us maps and for the time he took to advise us on where to drive to for some of the best views. The weather for our stay was very wet and windy at times but we still managed to enjoy the lovey scenery on the island. Our room was really comfortable and spotlessly clean, we even had our own private entrance! Irene and Andy suggested places for us to eat and at both places we were not disappointed, the Red Skye restaurant was really good. We enjoyed talking to Irene and Andy about places on Skye also about their love of black labradors. Irene's homemade shortbread was very welcome after a day out with a cup of coffee with 'proper milk'. We were made extremely welcome and felt very much at home and can only describe our breakfast as being 5 star. We definitely needed more time to explore and so if we ever do find that time to visit again we shall make sure we stay with the lovely people at Allt a Choire.

What a wonderful place! You step outside the garden gate in the morning and see a few sheep with their little lambs coming down the narrow single track road. Peaceful and beautiful, just mountains and hills, a few little brooks and meadows and sheep all around. It puts a smile on your face! Very nice and quite room, slept wonderfully, everything spotlessly clean. Delicious breakfast with all kinds a fresh fruit ready cut for my Muesli. Irene and Andy made us feel at home and gave us great advice for Skye, could also lend maps and binoculars to take along. A wonderful stay for 4 days and my secret highlight of our stunning tour. Right from the first contact, Irene proved to be a great source of useful and interesting information about the Isle of Skye. We were given information about local restaurants, activities and places to visit. Upon arrival, Irene greeted us and showed us around the accommodation. We were offered the use of books, maps and binoculars, all of which were gratefully received. The flow of information from Irene continued, and we soon realised just how much there is to do on Skye (and that there's no need for Google when you've got Irene). Andy, Irene's husband, is a local tour guide, and has encyclopedic knowledge of some of the island's most interesting places. He was often at hand to develop on Irene's search results; you can think of Irene as Google and Andy as Wikipedia.

The B&B is comfortable, and surrounded by beautiful and dramatic landscapes – it's like having your own little nature reserve, complete with birds, rabbits, sheep and lambs. It's far enough away from things to feel remote, yet only a five minute drive from local shops and restaurants. Aside from the B&B itself, there were some nice touches that left us with a good feeling. These included the use of Fairtrade products, and tasty home-made shortbread (the recipe for which is available in return for a small donation to a charitable cause).

We had a very enjoyable stay at Allt A' Choire. It was clear that Irene and Andy care about their guests and that they are in awe of the island on which they live. If you want to get the most out of your trip to the Isle of Skye, consider staying at Allt A' Choire.

We came up via train from Edinburgh to Kyle of Lochalsh in late April 2013 for a 2 nights stay in Allt a Choire. Irene gave us a lot of help suggesting train routes, recommendations for car rental and clear driving instructions for first time drivers like us to get to the B&B!

The B&B is located about 10 mins drive from Broadford, inside a working croft which is accessible via a single drive lane where you'll encounter a lot of sheep.

We had a wonderful stay here. The rooms were clean, well-spaced and very comfortable - I had my best night's sleep of the trip at Allt a Choire! The breakfasts were great as well - we loved the fruits and yogurt, smoked salmon and eggs. :) I loved waking up to the view of the Red Cullins, watching birds flirt around the birdhouses placed in front of the window of each room. We also learnt a lot about Skye and Scotland from Irene and Andy, who shared with us the key spots to see in Skye on our short trip and also gave us great recommendations for food - you have to try the amazing food at am praban bar and harbour inn restaurant!

Would love to stay at Allt a Choire again when we find our way back to Skye!

We drove up from north Wales to stay with Irene and Andy with our 2 dogs to receive a warm and friendly welcome. The rooms were spacious (with ample room to accommodate 2 dog cages) and very comfortable. More than enough to eat at a marvellous breakfast with Irene on hand to provide valuable advice on where to visit and when.....would definately go and stay again!! Thank you very much Irene.!

Room Tip: All rooms are spacious and comfortable with ensuite and drink making facilities, not forgetting Iren...

We stayed here for five nights for our honeymoon trip. It was a great location and home-base for touring the rest of the island, and only about 2 hours from Inverness where we picked up our car. Irene was very helpful and hospitable, offering lots of information about places to go and things to see. We had a perfect view every morning over tasty breakfasts and loved the view from our room, complete with bird-watching in front of the mountains. Would recommend this B&B to those visiting the island!
