This hotel, although a little hard to find when driving, is located in a fantastic place, with a view across the Tobermory harbour and across to Morven. We did not eat in the hotel and so cannot comment on the food, but the general environment of the hotel is good. In particular, the lounge, open fire and comfortable chairs and couches was a good place to spend the evening. I did not see a lift, if anyone is needing a lift to get to upper floors. The bedroom and en suite bathroom was good and we slept well. There is a lingering 'aroma' of food from the kitchen as you go up the stairs (common in older hotels), but this was not evident in the bedroom. The parking is conveniently just outside the entrance door of the hotel. The only significant downside was that there was only slow wifi in the lounge and apparently in the reception area, but none in the room. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. I would stay here again, but hope that their wifi might have improved by the next time.

Room Tip: If you do need fast internet connection and access overnight, this hotel may not suit you.

Dear MullSkye

Thank you very much for your good review. We are trying various different ways of improving the wifi signal, but late 19th century building were built to withstand both the Hebridean weather, and 21st technology it seems! We hope to have more consistent solution in place soon

Very best wishes

Although it was off season, the price was fantastic for a fantastic hotel with friendly staff and a lovely room. We had all three meals and they were all very good. Dinner was very nice and reasonable, lunch was a nice selection and the salmon for breakfast was lovely.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea.

We spent three nights at this hotel in October. It was our first trip to Mull and we looked forward to a quiet and relaxing few days. Our room was lovely with a fine view over the harbour. It was a good deal for dinner B&B with ferry included. Food was good and service generally good. Now for the downside. When we checked in on a Sunday we were told there would be a wedding the following day. This meant we could not use the restaurant for two of our three nights. And on our second day (the day of the wedding) our dinner in the conservatory was spoiled by the fact that wedding guests were coming in to the bar (which is the conservatory) and the disco was being set up with lights flashing. Basically the hotel is not large enough to accommodate a function and regular hotel guests. The whole hotel was taken over by the wedding function and on the day of the wedding we were forced to retire to our room and listen to the music from the wedding until the early hours of the morning.

A nice hotel but check when you book whether they have a function on whilst you are there.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view master room

Dear William A

Thank you for your review and may I add my apologies to those of our manager, Debi Williams, for the inconvenience you incurred. There was clearly some variation to the normal hotel operation which many guests who werent attending the wedding enjoyed, however not all. My apologies.

Best regards
Richard

Returning to the Western Isles after a couple of years, Huge improvements to the public areas especially the dining room- beautiful new decor. Lovely new furniture in the Conservatory. We ate in the dining room on one night and the conservatoryon the other and the food was superb. Much improved since out last trip. Must mention the breakfast, the very best scrambled egg I have ever had away from home.
We used the 2 nights including the ferry deal which was great value. We had an upgrade to sea view room which had great views especially in the early morning - see below. Bedroom and bathroom rather shabby but clean and comfortable.
The hotel is still very much a work in progress and it will be great to see improvements in the bedrooms next time.
Good to see some of the same staff from previous visit - always a good sign.

Room Tip: An upgrade for a view definately worthwhile although in the winter maybe the Harbour view is best be...

been visiting Mull for over ten years now, dined here several times over the years and had many happy evenings here good food, service and atmosphere.
several years ago approx four...a change of ownership sent the service in quality down so we havnt returned....
on our recent visit to the mull tour [rally] this year we decided to give it a try.."big mistake"!!..having paid £18+ for a steak...to be served a piece of boot leather..cool to be polite, on a stone cold plate, with very unattentive staff...
Well enough said....we will not be back, there were five of us in our party & we all felt very let down ...not even the superb views could make up for the evening

Dear ispokes

I'm very sorry that you feel let down by your meal with us, and I'd like to apologise for your disappointment. You have reviewed anonymously but we didnt serve many tables of 5 that weekend so I'm fairly confident that I can place who you were.

I served your table that night. In fact I asked you at the beginning of the meal if everything was to your satisfaction, and at the end. Both times at least one person on your table answered positively. If a guest doesnt tell the serving staff that theres a problem during the meal, particularly after being asked twice, then it is very difficult for us to respond and resolve any issues.

I distinctly remember talking to your table on a couple of occasions after you had finished your meal, so am obviously disappointed you felt I was inattentive. As I'm sure you saw, the last night of the rally is a very busy evening and we were all doing our very best to give the best possible service.

Regards

This hotel is situated on top of a hill overlooking Tobermory Bay and has some wonderful views. Upon arrival on a cold November afternoon, it was great to feel the warmth of a roaring log fire in the reception area! The staff were all very friendly and accommodating during my two night stay.

The hotel has rooms on two floors. There is no lift, so you will need to negotiate the stairs with your luggage. The rooms are comfortable but in need of a little modernisation. The wallpaper in mine was mildly overpowering and the bathroom could do with updating. However, the room was warm, the bed was comfortable, there was a modern flat screen TV and free wifi was available (ask at reception for the passcodes). My room could have benefited from more than one visible electrical socket, though.

The food served in the hotel was a definite highlight. I was travelling as part of a group and everyone commented on how impressed they were with the dinner on each night (both the quality and the quantity!). Breakfast was also of a high quality and I really appreciated the fresh, strong filter coffee served with breakfast.

It is only a five minute walk down the hill to the main seafront in Tobermory, with its assorted and colourful array of pubs, cafes and shops overlooking the harbour. The walk back up to the hotel is fairly steep but can be negotiated by all, if you take your time.

Special note for group leaders and coach drivers:
1. If bringing a group and arriving in a coach, make sure you contact the hotel in advance for a coach-specific route via the upper half of Tobermory. It is not possible to access the hotel in a coach when coming from the main seafront.
2. Make sure the coach you are travelling in is no longer than 12 metres, or it will most likely not be able to access the hotel.
3. It would be best to ask the hotel to put some cones out, to keep a space reserved for the coach to both turn and park as space in front of the hotel is at a premium.

I cannot comment on value as my room was paid for by the group. However, I can say that having previously stayed at other hotels on Mull, in my opinion this one has the best service, the best food and the best views. If you are planning to stay on Mull, this hotel certainly comes well-recommended.

Room Tip: I would suggest requesting a room overlooking the harbour/sea for the best views and a first floor r...

Dear Daca27

Thank you for taking so much time and trouble to leave such a good review. Your comments on coaches are very helpful - when we know that a groups coming in a coach then we always give them directions which are invaluable. You're completely right that 12m is the optimum maximum length - we have had longer and they journey has always made the drivers sweat a little!

Hope to see you back in June when the group returns

Very best wishes

Stayed at the Western Isles Hotel for a night and they upgraded by room to a sea/harbour view. The location is stunning - warm, friendly staff and a good breakfast. The room was very spacious and clean - the bathroom just needs a little updating. The main rooms are all spectacular as well and particularly enjoyed the log fires and of course, the views!
