Owner description: Sea Life Surveys, established over 30 years ago in 1982, was the first and is now the most experienced whale watching, porpoise, shark and dolphin watching, marine survey, and education programme in the UK. Establishing the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust in 1992, Sea Life Surveys is still actively conducting a research programme focused on the Minke whale and contributing directly to marine conservation.

We booked the seven hour trip, including a windy pack lunch on the Cairns of Coll. The wildlife is the reason we went, but the guides were what made the trip so worthwhile. They never stopped working: scanning the seas for signs of life and, when they spotted something, identifying it and explaining the animals' behaviours. They are truly passionate about their jobs - and about sharing their knowledge with the customers.
I will never forget this trip.

We booked on the four hour trip. We were lucky as the sea was calm and we saw many basking sharks, some harbour porpoise and a really good set of sea birds - storm petrel, great skua, manx shearwater, gannet and many others (including the sea eagles perched on the coastline). The boat was respectful of the wildlife (no chasing it down) and the guides were friendly and knowledgable and happy to talk to children. A nice extra touch was dragging a mesh cone in the sea to get some plankton (including baby jellyfish) and then putting them under a microscope connected to a TV in the cabin. Boat had a place to buy drinks and snacks and a toilet.

What a brilliant trip, we went on a 4 hour trip with 2 children and it was fabulous. The guides were friendly and shared a wealth of knowledge of the sea mammals, birds and plankton. We were lucky to sea basking sharks, seals, a brief glimpse of the minke hale and some great porpoise who swam right up to the boat. The trip was great from an educational point, showing a computerised plot of the journey and sightings. we studied plankton under the microscope and generally got excited by every knew creature spotted. A pricey trip for 4 but worth every penny. I only wish we could have gone again to spot the dolphins who played in the waves the day after. Another trip required.

This was my second outing with Sealife Surveys, having done the 7 hour whale watch a couple of years ago. This time I opted for the four hour excursion, billed as a wildlife explorer because whales are possible but less likely a bit closer to land.
The boat is spacious enough but the real selling point for this company is the crew. They and the skipper are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable that you can't fail to get off the boat knowing a lot more than when you got on!
A nice touch was the analysis of a sample of sea water using a microscope shown on a monitor, which gave a great view of the plankton.
Free tea and coffee with snacks to buy, but you're welcome to bring your own food.
Altogether a great afternoon, and I'll be back next year.

Myself, husband and two daughters went on a two hour ecocruz today. The crew were full of information and knowledge and constantly pointing out wildlife to look at - we were so lucky to see two basking sharks which was amazing! Our guide gave us loads of information about the sharks and we were given plenty of time to view them. We also saw seals, deer, salmon farm, plankton, loads of sea birds and the children loved the creel pots where we held scampi and lobster.
The trip was well worth the money - really memorable!
