I wasn't thrilled as this is my 3rd distillery my partenr has dragged me round. However, our guide was clear and interesting with a sense of humour. The length of the tour was just right.

I would recommend doing this tour, however, do it during the week as nothing is in production at the weekend and you are not allowed to take photos on the tour. Our guide, Jan, was brilliant at explaining how the whisky making process works and was very enthusiastic and passionate about the process. She answered all questions honestly and if she didn't know, then said so rather than start with "I think...".

The tour has two prices, £6 which includes a dram of Tobermory whisky at the end or £8 and you get a dram of Tobermory and a dram of Ledaig whiskies. It is a small distillery so it is not a long tour. There is also the option of purchasing whisky at the end of the tour.

Not recommended if you have mobility problems as there are a lot of stairs to climb up and down.

Seen one distillery, you get the idea... but it's always nice to reacquaint yourself with the smells which go toward bringing you some quality products. The tour price - although discounts you from purchases of standard Ledaig & Tobermory, does not give you any discount when you spend 3x as much on some of their premium cask strength malts. Minor point when spending £85. Tour is value for money if not been on this one before. Knowledgeable staff.

Altough the distillery was not on production during our visit (shortage of water), we choose to visit it for two reasons :Tobermory distillery is a small one, the production is not "industrial", so should be the tour.

The tour was an hour long, including the tasting of Tobermory. Ledaig can also be tasted. We smelled different samples of barley, saw the huges vats were barley is mixed with water, the copper stills, the olds barrels etc., The explanation were technical but clear.

We found it lacked a little of "dream" (after all Scots are said to be excellent story-tellers). But since this visit, we now know all the process of whisky.

Whiskies, water jugs etc. can be bought in the shop. Friendly staff.

Hi there,

many thanks for the kind review on TripAdvisor regarding your visit to Tobermory distillery. We are delighted you found us to be welcoming and informative on your visit. As you say water has been a wee issue for us as our island remarkably has proved to be one of the driest parts of the UK - only 1.8 inches in March alone, the last time we had to close for lack of water! The warm weather has been great for our visitors but not necessarily our distillery!

At all times we try and give our own personal tours which we continue to work on and evolve. Thanks again for your comments which helps us to improve as a team and for all our other guests.

We look forward to hopefully seeing you back at Tobermory distillery in the future.

Kind regards

Peter

we took the distillery tour but unfortunately it was the summer shut down so didnt see the actual stills working but the smells gave an indication of what it must be like when operational, the walk and talk with a sampler to end were well worth the money.
