We had prebooked our table and so glad we did as dinner is by reservation only. We were met by a friendly chap in scottish gear, "Lamont" tartan I was to learn. The meal was superb and John was a delightful host. John does all the fishing for the restaurant and guaranteed the freshness of menu fare. Will come again for sure when we next come to Scotland.

Our group of four visited this little gem of a restaurant on a Saturday night. From the moment we walked in to when we left later that night the experience was just very special. The service was second to none by the fisherman himself and the décor in the small but intimate restaurant was very restful and tasteful.
Having been visiting Mull since the mid 1970s it is so refreshing to find a good local restaurant serving local food. It is a very special experience and even though it is not cheap is well worth the money we spent that night.
Each of our courses was very nicely presented and the flavours very well matched. The menu changes depending on what is freshly caught that day and available from the garden.
Well worth the visit, we will be back!

What a lovely find. Up a track to a lovely restaurant in the bothy behind a farm. Once inside it's a smart but small bistro. Lovely personal service from the waiter (who also caught our lobster). Great wine list - we had an excellent white. Very clever food, beautifully presented. It's not cheap but worth splashing out for a treat if you are here on holiday. Booking essential.

We were on holiday in Bunessan and decided to try out the Ninth Wave just a short distance away in Fionnphort. We were not disappointed! The entrance to this very stylish restaurant is lovely with lots of flowers in the garden and, once inside, the décor is just perfect. The service too is second to none. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife team and it ran just like clockwork when we visited. There’s no turnaround of tables here – the table is yours for the night, so there’s no rush to get you out the door to get extra ‘bums on seats’ after you.

There’s not a huge choice of food on the menu and you choose your food based on how many courses you want and according to price, which is all explained clearly on the menu. We went for four courses with coffee and hand-made chocolates. It is principally a seafood restaurant, with whatever is on the menu having been caught that very same day!

Firstly though, I had a chocolate Martini cocktail – now, that was to die for! It was simply delicious!! My husband had a Highland Fling which he enjoyed too. I then had the pea and sea lettuce soup with poached mackerel followed by Mull scallops then Mull lobster and then a trio of chocolate desserts. My husband had the won ton soup, the Mull Scallops, the Mull lobster and a deconstructed lemon meringue dessert. That was all washed down by rather a nice Pinot Grigio wine and coffee with those unusual but scrummy hand-made chocolates. The one I ate had salt and seaweed in it, but you’d never know apart from just a very slight aftertaste of salt. I finished with a Bailey’s liqueur. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the home-made bread – now that was wonderful as well.

If you’ve not had lobster before because you don’t know what to do with it, then try it here as you will be given all the proper utensils to use along with a lesson in how to use them, which was very informative.

I suppose my only gripe would be that the food wasn’t piping hot, but perhaps that is how it’s supposed to be served. Even the soup was more lukewarm than hot, and that spoiled it all a little for me but, having said that, it was all delicious and very well presented. This restaurant would not be out of place if you picked it up and popped it back down in the centre of London!!

There’s no getting away from the fact that this is an expensive restaurant, so it’s probably not somewhere that you’d eat out all the time, but it’s just perfect for a special occasion or if you want to splash out. It’s certainly fine dining at its very best.
