and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was friendly, quick and efficient.
We chose to eat local produce Food was fresh and delicious, especially the starter of fresh crab claws, followed by wild venison pie. Portions were generous. Cost reasonable, and there was a nice Bordeaux on the wine menu. Very satisfying and enjoyable.
Can't comment on the accomodation as we were not resident.

We stayed at the Argyll for 2 nights in order to make the trip to Iona. Our room was fine, with a pleasant view of the sea and the bedroom clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a little bit dingy and perhaps in need of modernisation. We ate at the Argyll Arms both nights and food in the evening and breakfast were generally fine, but nothing special. Staff were polite and sufficiently attentive.

Unfortunately for much of our stay there was a horrific smell as you entered the main door... This was very off putting; and not pleasant before taking a meal.

Given the amount of very good reviews on this hotel we possibly turned up on a bad day. But I don't think so. My colleague and I arrived at lunch time and both chose Haddock and chips. My colleague asked if the fish was fresh and we were told "yes, we don't serve any crap here"

When the fish arrived it looked fine but on cutting in to it we could tell the fish was not fresh. It had scorch marks on it where it had been defrosted in a microwave and then battered and fried.

The whole place could do with getting a grip on. The floor in the lobby, the windows, single glazed and steel, frames some broken! Seating. The downstairs gents toilets were tiny cramped and a disgrace. The window had a sheet of steel in it. The staff/owners also need bringing up to speed on what is fresh/frozen food as well. Not a good experience.

Having called into daa

Having called into day as locals, I was very disappointed with the lack of lunchtime menu available at this time of year , when you would think that a local buisness would be more than grateful of the extra trade and revenue with the Mull Rally being on it's doorstep. For 3 bowls of soup , 3 toasties on bread which was not as described , 3 soft drinks and a bottle of Budweiser. The bill came to £36 odd. Certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone ,although the Barmaid/waitress was very pleasant and effiecent.

We called here for dinner as an alternative to our usual The Keel Row in Fionnphort. We had not booked thinking we would be ok for a table at 6.15, and the restaurant did not look busy. We were told there would be a half hour wait to take our order and we decided that was okay. Although there were plenty of empty tables we were sat at a table next to a family with noisy dogs and children and we did not receive our order for an hour and a half. Three out of four in our party enjoyed our food, but part way through eating there was a power cut. Staff made no attempt to ask if we were ok, as we ate in the dark, we even had to fetch our own candle from the resident's restaurant. When we paid the bill there were no apologies for the poor service. Needless to say we will not return here. Pity - because the location at the water's edge is superb.

This hotel appeared in most of the paperwork around the Island and in the tourist documentation before we went. Thus thought it was a good bet BUT WE WERE WRONG. The rooms were dated in poor condition and the shower looked like it was going to fall apart. We had two rooms, a double and a twin and both were in the same condition. On top of which we were placed in rooms directly above the bar despite being out of season and not full by any stretch of the imagination. There are good B & Bs around which would be much more inviting and clean.
The food however was very good so for a stop for dinner would be ok but do not stay the night
It was not good value for money and sadly let itself down..........
