Hebridean Luxury Holidays
Reviewed September 25, 2008

Being a traveller that usually always travels to sunnier climbs, I had put no real expectations for my first trip to the western isles apart from looking forward to a very restful week on a picturesque Scottish island.

What a breath of fresh air to discovered the most amazing little haven of fantastic beaches and breathtaking scenery, delicious seafood (try Súlair at Ness, well worth the drive), art galleries, historic sites and the sun was kind enough to make an appearance for the the best part of the week!

After a short 50 minute flight from Edinburgh, the welcoming face of Morag Duncan from Hebridean Self Catering greeting us at the airport made us feel reassuringly at home straight away - not a clipboard in sight, no wading our way through queues of travellers to taxi ranks, just a friendly smile and a handshake while being led to our hire car (also organised by them), sigh how easy was that, we were now on holiday!

On the short drive to ‘Iolaire’ Morag filled our heads with many places to see and visit during our stay. Her passion for Scotland and in particular the western isles was a delight to hear and she became our ‘oracle’ of the herbrides during our stay.

Our accommodation in ‘Iolaire’ was excellent and deserving of its five star status. The house was extremely well appointed with all that you would need to make for a very comfortable stay. I planned to make my first stop the jacuzzi bath - never made the sauna, but maybe next time!

The unusual design of the property with its vaulted ceiling created a real feeling of space with the decked seating area outside the property the ideal place to watch the sun go down on an evening.

Looking for a place to escape then give Hebridean Self Catering and the Isle of Lewis a chance - you will be pleasantly surprised - an experience not to be missed - I look forward to my return visit!

five star luxury all the way. Beautifully appointed new build bungalow. Large bright lounge with plenty of comfy seating, flat screen tv, with full sky package and internet broadband access, through to a dining area, and superbly appointed large kitchen with american fridge freezer, oven , hob , dishwasher. Washer and dryer facitlites in the house, but The company also offer a full laundry service. 3 well appointed bedrooms with the master being on suite. A fantastic all around shower in the main bathroom. An absolute joy. Decking outside with seats to relax with a glass of wine after a long day of sight seeing!!!

The perfect place to be based for a relaxing break. A definite return needed.

Nothing too much trouble for Graham or Morag to make the holiday so very very special

We stayed at Metagama which is one of I think about 6 properties all look from the brochure to be of a really high standard. I am very fussy about self catering in Scotland having stayed in Arran in a cottage that claimed to be 3 star but was below one star! This has meant I have a less than favourable view of self catering on Scottish Islands but this has made me change my mind and we are considering going back for a week next summer and even two or staying also on Uist.
The property was great as it was fully equipped. The kitchen for example has been done with cooks in mind and really good quality equipment.
There is Sky Tv and a range of DVD's and books for any wet days or just keeping up with the outside world! The bathroom is fab - sauna and jacuzzi bath for two!! We just loved it it was so indulgent.
The property is only 10 minutes walk from Stornoway and looks out over fields to the sea.
Finally just to make it near perfect there is Morag on hand who greets you at the airport or from the ferry and is at the end of a phone if you need to find out how to put on the heating or to find out where to eat!
We were only there for three days but came back feeling chilled and relaxed with a much more positive view of Scottish island self catering! We use Vintage holidays in Spain and this compared very favourably with some of their best properties that we have stayed in.
