“Worst nights sleep for a long time - a hotel that looks like its stuck in the 90s”
Reviewed November 26, 2012 via mobile

The hotel itself appeared very dated. My room was very very small and had only a single bed in which I found very dated also.

The bathroom was so small I struggled to shut the door when I was in it and there was no chance of my fitting in the bath so I forced to utilise the rubber shower attachment, such a contraption I had not seen since my childhood.

I experienced the worst nights sleep of my life due to the single glazing and appauling single bed.

The restaraunt by contrast was amazing, great quality and modern. Shame that the same effort hadn't been made to the hotel.

Great hotel, staff were really friendly and helpful, lovely restaurant and excellent food at good value prices, great central location close to town but able to avoid it if heading out. Only thing I would say is some money REALLY needs to be spent on the heating!!!!

Room Tip: if you're here in winter ask if they got a spare heater!

A great wee hotel near the town centre and so convenient for shops restaurants and of course the ferry terminal. Stay were superb, breakfast was good, room a bit small but the bed was extremely comfortable.

The welcome was good and the staff were very helpful when we arrived off the ferry from Ullapool

There was an extremely good buffet waiting for us - and the room was comfortable too.

Breakfast was really good - really good!

All in all, I was very happy with my stay in late August as part of a coach party - Brightwaters.

Regards,

My grandfather, aunt and I stayed in a three bedroom - room 53. One double bed and two single beds jammed into a closet. The room looked as though someone half heartedly tried to update it with the headboards, vanity and wall mounted tv but fell short. Very short. The room was barren and sadly decorated, not to mention cold. The kettle was absolutely rusted out, so no coffee for us. The bathroom was the worst I've seen. A ridiculous shower/bath combination where the glass only covers one half of the shower, getting water all over the floor. Between the mould on the grout and the mould on the ceiling I'm sure we contracted a disease. I've no idea what the food on the menu is like, because we were so disgusted by what we saw at the buffet that we turned around and ate out. The corridors are a maze of dirty, swinging saloon doors and mouldy carpets. They're topped off with the dusty, silk, funeral flowers between floors. The lift is a nightmare! There's a horrible banging sound and when you think it's stopped, it drops another half a foot! Nearly gave my grandfather a heart attack! The girl at the front desk, while very sweet, was absolutely clueless. Staff was incredibly unhelpful. The only things going for this hotel are its proximity to the ferry terminal and a tesco - a relatively sad grocery store but at least an alternative to the horrible hotel food. The matresses were hard and the duvet was tiny! Barely covered me! All in all, dirty, dated, bad food, bad service, very ugly decor. Never would I pay to stay here again.

Room Tip: Never stay here. If you have to stay here, bring your own linens. And cleaning supplies.

Having been let down badly by an accommodation provider elsewhere in Stornoway, 21 charity cyclists and one support driver were welcomed to this hotel at no notice and treated with true Hebridean hospitality. Very reasonably priced clean rooms and a great welcome and secure accommodation for our 21 bikes, all taken in their stride by the hotel staff. An early ferry meant we could not sample the breakfast but we experienced true customer service.

I have stayed here on four occasions this year and hopefully will be back. Yes, as some would say the rooms are a bit dated but it makes up massively in other departments.
The staff are a treasure and the food is out of this world (best in Stornoway).
Will be back.

Room Tip: Book a room with a shower
