Nice place in great location in town with parking out the back. The rooms seem to be fairly random sizes, but mine was fine as a small double, had a little table to work from. Bit of a lack of power points for charging my gear. Wifi was temperamental but they have a few to choose from so seem to be trying to make it work. Food in the attached restaurant or cafe is excellent. Bed comfy, shower fine, no bath.

I stayed here for two nights in January 2013 & was given Room 22. The room is tiny & that's not an exaggeration. I could stand in the middle of it & touch both walls at the same time. The ceiling slants at an angle meaning I banged my head getting into a bed that must have been designed for a person no taller than average. I'm over 6 ft & had to sleep with my feet sticking out the bottom of the bed. Watching TV whilst lying on the bed or sitting under the slanted ceiling turned me into a contortionist! The room was very cold at night even with the electric heater left on until bed time & the shower room/toilet was difficult to move about in as it was tiny. On the plus side, the Receptionist, bar & waiting staff were very friendly, professional & polite & hats off to the chef & kitchen crew as my evening meals & breakfast were very good. Plentiful plates of very well cooked food (try the seafood platter in the attached restaurant HS1. Incredibly tasty). Next time I'm in Stornoway, I think I'll stay somewhere else but eat at HS1

Room Tip: Avoid Room 22 unless you're vertically challenged or come from a long line of hobbits

Found this hotel comfortable and pleasant. Many different bars and a good eatery (HS1)

Large rooms, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom can feel a little cool in the colder months but other than that, a quality stay. I have a few more journeys planned and will make this my hotel of choice.

I spent 2 nights ther with a group.
Food at dinner and breakfast is very good, and the bar is very pleasant with a good number of whiskies.
My room (20) was very small: no table at all, and very warm because of a central heating pipe.
Nice bathroom but I had to use a plastic thing to have a shower. I thought these sorts of accessories had disappeared a long time ago.

While recently returning to beautiful Stornoway for work purposes, i had the good fortune to stay at the Royal. This was due to my original accomodation not living up to expectations and i am pleased to say that the staff did all they could in ensuring that my two weeks at the Royal was home from home. The food was excellent in the adjacent HI-s bar and breakfasts were always a good start to the day. All in all, the Royal was delight ful to stay at and i will not hesitate to return as i hope to do soon for pleasure.

Decent 2-night stay here. Bit pricey but all the accommodation on the Hebrides seems to be, with little or no 'deals' to be found. Very poor water pressure for shower. Excellent bistro for food - HS1 bar? Nice view over inner harbour from front rooms. Free WiFi. Parking to rear. 2 minutes from ferry terminal.

Nice Hotel, walked in off the street, got a room, the staff were very good, organised the restaurant to stay open till I got in for evening dinner, food was exceptionally good.
Room was fine if a litte tired, bathroom across the hall, for my exculsive use.
Overall I would stay again, perhaps a litte pricey.
