I stayed here while on tour with Scottish Opera. Wasn't sure what to expect but blown away when I arrived. This hostel is smack in ye middle of Stornoway and about 100yds from the ferry. Christine, the owner, met me on arrival and couldn't be more personable.
It is small so if recommend booking, only has 26 beds; males only, female only, mixed and 1 family dorm.
Really large and well equipped kitchen with a big ol' Aga style range (that works). Has Internet and laundry on site and the most amazing common room with real solid fuel fire - fell asleep in front of it - aided by a bottle of wine granted! Showers on both main floors, top one is huge, big double walk in.
If I had a quibble, its that there's no double option - even in the family room (I spend a lot of time sleeping in a truck when on tour and when I can get the space I take it). That really is the only fault, if it even is one. This place is superb. Save your money on expensive and to be honest, usually pretty poor (from experience), local hotels an stay here.
Basic brekkie is also included (toast, cereal and the like), as is tea and coffee.
