The cottage is well placed to visit either Lewis or Harris which are equally distant. Stornoway or Tarbert about 45min drive through wonderful countryside.
The cottage itself is well suited to couples or a small family with two loft converted bedrooms, one with king bed (remember to duck) and one with two single beds.
The surrounding area is outstanding with lovely drives and amazing places to visit.
We visited by motorcycle and found it very pleasant indeed but would suggest a few level paving stones (not gravel) outside the small drive to give both a turning ability and more convenient off road motorcycle parking
Our third holiday in Scotland, and one never to forget. We had a wonderful week in the remote region of Pairc in David's cottage. Thank you, David, for your care and advices! Usually we never come back to the place we once visited, but this will be the first exception.
The cottage was a great base for our week - the scenery stunning, weather was great, people friendly, all in all a wonderful week and I have some great pictures to remind us of it all.
Stayed in Cosy Cottage foe a week from 26th Aug this year. It was exactly as described a Cosy Cottage.Very comfortable and equipped with everything you would need for your stay.Location was perfect for travelling to all areas on the island and the silence was amazing, very peaceful and excellent surroundings.David called the night we arrived to ask if we had a good journey and if all was ok at the Cottage, very nice of him to take the time to call. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again. Excellent holiday
Booked at the last minute and were so pleased to have found such a lovely cottage. Spotlessly clean with comfortable bed and everything we needed for a great self catering holiday. Highly recommended. We would definitely visit again.
The cottage is in a beautiful location. It is on a very quiet road with little traffic and no properties right next to it. The owner David sent great directions and information and it was easy to get into. The house was clean and tidy.
The cottage has only electric heating (storage heaters downstairs and on demand heaters upstairs). It was very warm, especially upstairs and we never needed to switch the upstairs heaters on. The two upstairs bedrooms are small and I bumped my head on the sloping ceilings a few times. We didn't use the sofa bed in the lounge as we brought a travel cot for the littlest one.
The blurb states that the house is suitable for under 5s however there are no child friendly features such as travel cot, high chair, stair gates, kids cups, plates, spoons, kids toys dvds etc. Also there are lots of little china ornaments dotted all over the place that we had to squirrel away to safety on arrival away from little hands. All of the above is easily forgivable as it is the first year of Cosy Cottage being a holiday let. However, the one thing we sorely missed was a washing line. There is a washer but only a flimsy little clothes horse to dry anything on. I understand that most people don't want to do any washing when on holiday, but with 3 small children and trips out and about on walks and to the beach we inevitably had things to get dry every day. The small clothes horse is hardly up to the job of even hanging 5 towels on every day.
Having said all that, these are minor complaints. The garden is fully enclosed and the kids loved exploring all the little pathways on multiple levels. There is a bench out back to sit on and enjoy the view (and peace and quiet). The location was great for exploring both Lewis and Harris and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Lewis and Harris are brilliant, in case you haven't yet decided to go. I heartily recommend it for anyone that likes nature and/or history.
Cosy Cottage itself is very nice, with kitchen, lounge, bedroom and shower room all up to scratch, and with a nice garden to boot. The location is spectacular, with lovely walks either side of the nearby sea loch. If you're looking for quiet, this is the place - the odd sheep wandered along the road while I was there, but I don't recall a car!
David, the owner, was very helpful, and made sure I had everything I needed while I was there. I'll definitely go back if I have the chance to return to Lewis.
