“A good place from which to explore Lewis & Harris (if you have a car)”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

We stayed 4 nights, just about the right length to see many of the sights and sites. It was good to be a 10-minute drive from the Standing Stones, since we found ourselves drawn to return there 3 or 4 times at different times of day. The breakfasts were fine, especially the kippers and the porridge -- and our one dinner was entirely OK but a bit pricey. It was good to be pretty much halfway between the sights to the north (black house, Butt of Lewis) and the south.

Room Tip: We would have preferred an "en suite" room; ours had its own private back but it was a sho...

We recently stayed at Eschcol guest house. We tried to book into Loch Roag ( next door) but they had a more suitable room in the Eschcol.

Although the room was a little basic, we had a really nice time for the 2 nights we stayed and would go back again. The breakfast ( served in the Loch Roag) was great and the staff/ owners are all very friendly/ helpful. The b& b is very close to the standing stones and is a good place to be based to explore Lewis.

Our only regret was not having an evening meal at the Loch Roag as we went to the only place to eat nearby and were very disappointed

Situated on an island filled with standing stones, forts and monuments, the Eschol Guest House is perfectly positioned for taking advantage of these sites. Minutes away from the Callanish Standing Stones, it makes it easy to enjoy this ancient site at a moment's notice, particularly at dusk. The innkeeper, Neil MacArthur, is extremely personable and willing to please. We felt very well looked after and when he saw a need, he would surprise us by fulfilling it. He saw we had a bottle of wine in our room and that evening we noticed two fine crystal goblets next it to. THAT's the kind of attention you can expect. This home is neat as a pin. Our room had a king size bed with a fabulous mattress. Breakfast is served beginning at 8:15 a.m. and you pre-order what hot cooked items you would like the night before. It is served in the adjacent inn's dining room, which is owned and operated by his son, which has large windows for enjoying loch views. Book with confidence.

Room Tip: If you book the king size bedroom in the back of the house, it has a fully updated bathroom but be a...

We stayed three nights and would recommend it to anyone. Very helpful host and we were very well looked after. Facilities all very good. The only drawback was the lack of eating places near by.

This B & B is quite well kept but obviously not as new as the neighbouring one ( loch roag). It may be in need of some renovation. One single room smelt rather musty and damp. The showers do not work properly but this can be easily fixed. We would have preferred the heating to be turned on in the night as our room was rather chilly. Breakfast was a lovely affair in a room that overlooks the loch. The owner of the B and B, neil, is friendly and helpful.

Eschol B&B and Loch Roag are side by side in Breasclete, Isle of Lewis. It is very quiet, and beautiful here. The rooms are large and very comfortable as are the reading and observation areas. Eagles can be seen on occasion on the rocks behind the house. Neil, the proprietor, is very personable and knowledable about the surrounding areas which is three miles from the Callanish Standing Stones and his son is an awesome cook. Best breakfast in Scotland. Down the road is a hotel/pub with some of the most fun and intelligent eccentrics we've had the pleasure to meet. They were like family when we left. We hope to go back someday soon.
