We can honestly say we didn't want to leave. After three nights, we were not ready, but it was booked the next night, unfortunately....We arrived in the afternoon, and found the Old Postal Office to be in a perfect little village, with an amazing view. The neighbors have a couple highland Cows and various sheep roaming around, perfect to look out and contemplate life....
the house itself is very newly renovated, with thoughtful touches everywhere...the amazing fruit cake waiting for us in the fridge, prosecco, oat cakes, and a kitchen with everything needed to make an amazing meal...we were at home instantly. The bathroom and bedroom were definitely better than most of the places we have stayed in, and the living room was perfect for a chilly August night, burning peat in the fireplace, either reading a book from the well stocked bookshelf (thank you for introducing me to Peter May!!), or watching a movie from the DVD library. 3 nights wasn't enough, we will be back for sure.
After we had time to unpack and have a glass, Steve and Kim dropped by for a quick introduction, which was a lovely touch. Too often its just a keypad code these days, the chance to meet the owners was great, and get some tips on local walks and places to eat.
We went for a walk in the village, and started chatting with a neighbour who was cleaning freshly caught fish on his fence. Before we knew it, he had given us a bag with two fish for dinner, it was amazing. Its really a special part of the earth. I crave the peat smell now, we have nothing like that here in Alberta....
The Cottage is beautifully decorated , designed and equipped with pretty much all you would need .We were very lucky to be able to bring our 3 small well behaved labradors which for us was fantastic .We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Cottage is also quite central to all the areas and our hosts were very welcoming .
We come over to the Isle of Lewis every year to visit family and usually stay in one of their houses which is a former holiday let.
This year, however, it was unavailable so we had to look for somewhere else.
We were really fortunate to stumble upon the Old Post Office, which is just a couple of miles from where we usually stayed and still close to family for visiting.
It is a stunning, comfortable little cottage and has been done up to such high standards - Kim and Steve have done an amazing job and have really thought of everything.
We loved the wee touches they left, like the generous slice of fruit cake (delicious according to my husband!), Stag oatcakes, crowdie and prosecco in the fridge, as well as the comprehensive instructions for using the various appliances.
The fire was also set, ready for lighting but sadly it wasn't cold enough to use as the heating is set to keep the cottage lovely and cosy.
It's great value for money and perfect for couples visiting the island as it's a good base for just about everywhere you'd want to go.
The Old Post Office has only just been available as a holiday let for a few weeks, but it will definitely be a popular place so we'll be desperately trying to book it again for next summer!
The cottage has everything you need from the small essentials to the finest finishing touches we have experienced. The owners (Steve and Kim) are very hospitable and have paid great attention to detail on this lovely cottage. All the local attractions are worth visiting with breath taking views around every corner. Very dog friendly with enclosed garden but sheep and cattle always close by! Would recommend.
Beautifully appointed little house which has everything you could possibly need. All home comforts are here and all very high quality. We used the house as a base to explore the island and loved returning home here each night. Steve and Kim are very friendly and happy to guide you about where to go and what to do but they don't impose at all on your holiday.
We really enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to discover Lewis and Harris.
