“Wonderful Family Stay”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Everything about this hotel was wonderful - the sea view from our room, the tasty breakfasts, the huge "boat bath" Jacuzzi tub (my boys loved it!). The staff was professional and so kind - they even did a little load of laundry when my little guy wet his pjs - they definitely went above and beyond.

Right from our warm welcome when we checked in to the time we checked out everything about this hotel was great. I understand it was completely rebuilt just two years ago and that there are plans to continue developing the facilities.
The room was clean and comfortable with all we could require. Three is a lovely bar and restaurant and, although the food is not cheap, it was delicious and well presented. The breakfast was great too. Absolutely nothing negative to say about the place and thank you to all the staff for making our visit such a memorable one.

Like fellow contributors we bought a 3 night stay with LivingSocial and it was amazing value for money. Our room was spacious and spotless and we even had bathrobes and a Jacuzzi bath!!
The staff went above and beyond making us feel so at home and nothing was too much trouble for them. Part of the deal was afternoon tea but because of various factors we didn't manage to have it during our stay so we were given it in the form of a packed lunch for our journey home. As said above and beyond!!
We ate in the bar a couple of nights and can thoroughly recommend the burger...best pub grub burger we have tasted.
We love Islay and this particular visit was enhanced by staying in this lovely hotel. I would recommend it to everyone.

We spent three nights at the hotel, three dinners and breakfasts, and I have absolutely no complaints at all. Clean, fresh, lovely friendly staff...erm, the rooms are clean and fresh, I mean...not that the staff aren't...I should stop there.

We could complain about pencil marks on the wall, and towels that looked past their best, but that would be nit-picking.

Meals...oh my! First evening I had the rack of Argyll lamb (fabulous), second evening I had a rib-eye steak (very good, although not the sirloin on the menu) and on the third I had corn-fed chicken (excellent tarragon and mushroom sauce). On the second evening I also had the langoustine...I'm not a fish aficionado but they were very good.

There's a very fine selection of malt whiskies, but I'm a confirmed Laphroaig man so Quarter Cask it was (erm, name, not amount!)

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front have a good view of the bay and little traffic noise.

We had a great 3 night stay at The Islay Hotel. The place has been refurbished really well: lovely room and great atmosphere in the restaurant and bar. Staff were really great, as was the food: best langoustines we'd ever had and amazing steak. Room is well kitted out. Islay is such a beautiful island; we'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Rooms above the bar can be a bit noisy so go for the front rooms if that bothers you!

This is a lovely hotel. You roll off the ferry at Port Ellen and you're at the door of the hotel. We stayed there for a few nights whilst exploring the island for the first time. On the first day we took the short walk to three famous distilleries nearby - Laphraoig, Lagavulin & Ardbeg. A good start to our visit! In general terms our stay at the hotel was very enjoyable. The rooms were great (we had two rooms) and I loved the fact they were furnished with fab old furniture notwithstanding the modern refurbishment of the building - the 'contrast' worked well. The food was excellent (we particularly enjoyed the relaxed breakfast) and the staff were extremely helpful & friendly. Worth mentioning the gents toilet on the ground floor which was finished to a very high standard - not a common experience! Would love to go back.
