“Excellent weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

We booked into the Islay Hotel for the weekend as we were attending a birthday party in Port Ellen. The staff were very friendly and heplful, the room was very spacious and the bathroom had a jacuzzi bath. We arrived early on the Saturday morning and although breakfast was just finished it was no problem for our friends and ourselves to have a full breakfast - plenty of choice with lovely croissants and pastries. Dinner on the Saturday night, breakfast on Sunday was also excellent.
The hotel is very tastefully decorated with a great ambience throughout - bar area well stocked and a very pleasant area to relax in with friends. We would thoroughly recommend the hotel and hope to return ourselves in the near future.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel to discuss your requirements.

The Hotel:
We (2 people) stayed at The Islay Hotel for a few days just after xmas 2012. Underfloor heating out of order in our room, but rectified immediately by staff with very effective portable heater; bathroom towel rack not heated, room decor not very modern, but completely serviceable. Loud music and patrons from the bar one night after a party, audible from our room circa 11pm, but all quiet soon enough.Really lovely, helpful staff.

The Restaurant:
Really convenient to have on site, good food, generous portions. The hotel dining room is lovely, good breakfast with warm fresh pastries, as well as the usual cooked to order.

The Bar:
Fantastic range of whisky (duh) etc.

All round a really pleasant experience, would consider returning if in Islay again.

Room Tip: Try getting a room not above the bar/dining room, hotel sometimes hosts parties.

I went to the Islay Hotel with my partner for a 2 night stay this week and it was fabulous - the staff were very helpful and friendly (ringing us cabs etc) , the room was lovely and the whole place very warm and modern.

The food was amazing...I work for a very well known restaurant in South Devon which has won awards for its food and I thought that the dining in the Islay hotel was up to our standards - lovely fresh scallops, mussels and skate wing with capers (all local produce) plus a very good steak cooked perfectly. The wine list was very good, with Albarino and Valpolicella Ripasso the favourites and the desserts just as amazing.

Thank you to all the staff at the hotel for helping my partner (who i dont see for weeks at a time) treat me to a very warm, enjoyable and relaxing stay and we intend to stay over again some time.

Good food. Good view. Nice location. Friendly and helpful staff. We stayed during some appalling weather but the hotel remained a warm and dry haven. Good wifi in the comfortable rooms. Good ensuite facilities.

Stayed for four nights on business with colleagues. Rooms were amazing and the large bathroom with bath and separate shower was lovely. Very clean, modern and cosy. The staff were very friendly and they were extremely helpful. Breakfast was lovely and we dined in the restaurant every night. Food was first class and I would recommend the crab cakes as they were awesome. I really hope to visit again soon as I had a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely but if you like a separate bath you must specify as all en suites are different...

Took my father-in-law for his birthday lunch to the Islay Hotel today. Offering a festive lunch @ two courses for £10 - the most amazing value, and quite the best lunch we've had on the island in the past few months. New chef since our last visit, and a great improvement. Not everyone can produce a baked fish dish with excellent flavour and perfect texture, but that's what we (and the lady at the next table) enjoyed - and the veg were equally perfect (and hot!). The creme brulee with cointreau-soaked oranges I had for pud was also superb. Even the music was right! As our neighbouring diners said "you couldn't fault it". Why there were so few other diners there to enjoy this feast is a mystery. Their loss!!
