We dropped into this hotel with some friends and asked if we could be served with morning tea and coffee with snacks and were assured that it would be no problem. It took ages for the tea and coffee which were, respectively, stewed and appalling to be served and there were no snacks available. The service was dreadful with an obvious 'this would be a great job if it weren't for the customers' attitude. A mild compliant was met with the response that if they had known we were coming it would have been better. It certainly couldn't have been worse. One area on which thye don't stint is the charges.

If I could just point out that your group of 12 people arrived with no warning just as we were clearing away from our busy breakfast service. You all sat in the half cleared restaurant. Immediately the staff rallied to serve the refreshment order barked at them. As you had arrived an hour before our coffee/bar service normally begins our freshly made home baking was not completely ready but we did what we could, and as you kindly pointed out, it did take a little longer than it takes for guests that come when we are fully open. Our tea is made freshly to order and served in a tea pot. The length on time it is left before pouring is up to each persons own requirements. I 'm sorry you left yours too long so it had stewed A couple of pounds for tea and coffee is average when we check around. Perhaps with the great surroundings and lovely view of the harbour you imagined it should have cost more. You can read from our recent reviews your thoughts and comments are totally out of context to most peoples opinion. We will let readers make up their own mind

This hotel is in its first season as we were told and has been totally rebuilt and refurbished. We visited it twice during our stay once for coffee and secondly for an evening meal. We found the staff very helpful and eager to please. Wonderful range of whiskies! Our evening meal was very good with excellent service. Port Ellen really needs an establishment like this especially since the Ferry Terminal has now opened thus increasing tourist footfall in this area. If you have time give it a visit. You'll not be disappointed.

We were delighted to see that the Islay Hotel had been done up when we visited Islay for the 4th year in a row. Had Sunday lunch there and the food was lovely. Curried cawli soup was great. I had the languistine starter as my main course and there were tons !

When 24 starving sailors appear without reservations 10 mins before the lunchs stop being served, one would expect to get turned away. But not here! We were made most welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were delightful and ever so helpful and very keen to oblidge. The food was excellent and very reasonabley priced. An absolute must for anyone on Islay!

Me any my lovely wife chose the the Islay Hotel as the venue we wanted to have our wedding reception and we could not have made a better choice. The food was wonderful, both for the wedding dinner but also the hot evening buffet. The hotel was so accommadating and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Half of the wedding party (including me and my wife) stayed in the hotel and found the rooms and service excellent. We had the evening reception in the main bar area and the hotel provided us with a marquee for use in the outside courtyard. I can not speak highly enough of the Islay hotel and it will always have a special place in our hearts for making our wedding day so special. Thank you so much.

We had lunch here twice during our recent visit to Islay. It's so good to see the Islay Hotel so beautifully renovated, a welcome site when you come off the ferry!
The lunch was excellent - the fish and chips melted in the mouth - and the staff well so friendly and helpful.
We'll definitely be back when we return to Islay later this year.

I recently attened my son's wedding reception at the Islay Hotel and enjoyed the whole experience. Everything was delivered exactly as discussed during planning; the afternoon set menu and evening hot buffet was exceptionally well cooked and presented, the staff were helpful, efficient and cheerful, the tables were well decorated, and nothing on the day seemed to be too much trouble. A thoroughly wonderful day and I would strongly recommend the Islay Hotel as a venue suitable for wedding receptions for up to 50 people. Thank you.
