After a visit to the old Kildalton churchyard and seeing the beautiful Celtic cross, we stopped in to the Ardbeg distillery. I bought a little miniature bottle of whisky, and was asked by the clerk if I had tried their whisky before. I had not, and the clerk offered me a free dram to try. It was very tasty, and I nursed it all through a wonderful lunch at their Old Kiln Cafe.

The reason Ardbeg was our first distillery was this cafe. The Haggis is the best I had Scotland. It is a wonderful room. The young lady who gave our excellent tour & tasting was also our waitress and was excellent in all of her duties. This was a super first meal in Scoltland.

There are times when you eat out and it's an extra-special experience. The food is top class; the service perfect; the environment delightful.

So it was when we ate at the Old Kiln. Highly recommended... though it has to be said that our exceptionally modest bill (£31 for 2x2 courses) might look a little less attractive if you take into account the sizeable sum to sail to Islay in the first instance!

Had a lovely lunch here in this beautiful location we arrived in between tours and was seated and served by friendly and chatty staff, who helped make this visit every bit as good as previous ones. Well done all.
