We ate here both nights during our stay on Islay as we enjoyed it so much we wanted to go back on the second night. The food was amazing. Really good menu. Would highly recommend it.

We visited the restaurant for dinner twice. Refined cuisine, fresh quality ingredients, knowledge and imagination in the preparation of every dish, friendly service. A pleasant and civilized way to close the day in this remote Scottish island of wild beauty, with a 10 bf gale and hail showers raging just outside the front door.
I loved the exquisitely prepared scallops and Angus fillet stakes, while my friends enjoyed the chef's version of the more traditional Christmas dishes of turkey. Cost is rather reasonable at 40-50£ a person incl. wine.
The pub and bar housed next door offers more simple food at more economic prices. I still prefer the restaurant among the two.

We had dinner not once but twice in the pub, and it was excellent! The first night, we didn't have reservations (yes, you'll do well to book in advance, even in the pub), but the barman settled us right in and we had a wonderful meal--the fish and venison are impeccably fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. It's a far cry from what you might expect from pub food.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and they have a nice selection of beer on tap. (I've never been a beer drinker, but I became rather fond of one called Timothy Taylor's Golden Best--a big group of workers from a local distillery were drinking it, so I gave it a go.)

Our experience was so good that we booked again for the next night--and we again opted to eat in the pub. Two thumbs enthusiastically up!

Thank you for your positive review and appreciation of the type of bar meals we serve. Our cosy bar and real fire are always welcome now that the winter season is upon us. I am glad you enjoyed your meals and a nice ale to go along with it and I hope that we will have thumbs up again on another visit in the future.

We visited the Port Charlotte a couple of times during our holiday in June and had a lovely meal on both occasions. We ate in the bar which was very quiet at the time and had lovely service from the staff. the views of the sea were very pleasant although you had to be lucky to get the window seat. I just felt that the prices were a little high for the food.

Thank you for your kind review and lovely to hear that you enjoyed your visits with us.

For our menus we source as much local produce as we can, however, for some goods we have to transport from the mainland. Our meals are cooked freshly to order and based on this, the quality of produce we offer and on customer feedback like yours we consider our pricing very carefully and in order to be as fair as possible.

This is rated as a four star hotel and they do not serve afternoon tea. They could not suggest anywhere else.

I am puzzled by this review as we do serve tea and coffee thoughout the day. Our lunches are served between 12 and 2 pm and evening meals between 6 and 9 pm. We find that we do not have the demand for a traditional afternoon tea between our lunch and evening service times. Should this be requested then our staff will always recommend other establishments in the village who offer this.
