The Harbour Inn is a perfect spot for lunch or dinner in Bowmore. The bar menu includes a number of 4-whisky tastings. Both the bar menu and that in the dining room, where we had lunch, feature local seafood, beautifully fresh, in generous portions. The mariner's plate can be ordered in a small or large size - I had the small, which was huge in my terms. There is a good selection of wines by the glass, as well as local ales and - of course - whiskies. Desserts are excellent. Service can be slow - but you are on vacation! The dining room and the bar can get very crowded indeed, especially in high season. Probably best to book ahead.

The ambience is rather formal for the location I thought. The service was excellent if not a bit overbearing at times. We made it clear we were not ready to order dessert. However it took a few tries to get this across. My main course was trying to be something it wasnt and my salmon and mixed white fish were lost in a coconut curry soup-like liquid. Random veg were also in evidence. Our other main course was excellent but again maybe a bit too fussy.

A horribly wet day was brightened up by a very good lunch a the Harbour Inn.
Beer battered haddock and chips with mushy peas ( not the tartare sauce as on the menu but preferable in my opinion) and a decent pint of Guinness. The chips were unfortunately not up to the standard of the fish.
The service in the Schooner Bar was perfect even though the bar itself was very small and cramped. A nicer place to eat would be the conservatory at the back, with lovely views over the harbour, but they only serve tea and coffee there which seems a shame.
Recommended.

My partner and I received a gift voucher upon our recent engagement. Even though we both live locally to Islay we never chose to dine there always opting for pub grub but the vouch gave us a great excuse. We arrived to be taken into a beautifully lit conservatory looking out across the lochindaal. Our menus were given and drinks order taken on return not only did we receive drinks but a lovely dish of Bombay mix. We were then ushered to the main restaurant which is not too big and not too small and filled with just the right amount of people. Our starter, main course and dessert were top class and beautifully presented. It is more highly priced than other restaurants in the area but you get what you pay for and we received the best of ingredients freshly prepared and just enough of it to not turn you too full or feel hungry. I have been again since then and really is a lovely treat!

The seafood in the harbour inn is phenomenal, just off the boat that afternoon, the scallops were to die for.

Loch Gruniart oysters were superb.
Great attentive service and a very relaxed dining experience.
A little pricier than other places on the island, but well worth it.

Make sure you enjoy a couple of post dining drams in the conservatory overlooking the loch.
