We stayed 2 nights and it was excellent. Really felt like home. The room is ingeniously designed. I liked the chair in the bathroom:-)
The bad was great and also the bath. Breakfast was fine and it was nice to sit together with the other guests and have a chat. We definitely enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at the Island Bear for two nights and found it a fantastic B & B. Right in the centre of Bowmore it was friendly, clean and comfortable. The rooms were quite spacious compared to some we have been in. The ambience and décor was very pleasant and somewhat unusual as the owner is a collector of artefacts' and antiques. Breakfast was very adequate and on one day we had fresh smoked haddock. For other meals and refreshments we found that the hotel across the road and the other hotel one street behind were friendly and with good food.

Room Tip: ask for top floor

Bobby built this B&B from the inside out. Stripped to a shell, Bobby has greated a home away from home. Comfortable room, good beds and a modern shower with lots of hot water! Bobby's breakfasts were a la carte - made as you like it. The back bacon was particularly good. I would recommend this to all ages.

We spent two weeks travelling throughout Scotland, and the Island Bear was hands down our favourite place to stay. Our room was very private and oh-so-comfortable. The decor is absolutely charming. Our bathroom had a skylight that opened! Bobby made us feel right at home - he really goes the extra mile. On our last day, we had to leave at 6 a.m. to catch the last ferry off the island. Bobby offered to make us breakfast at 5 a.m. without even blinking - and when we declined (too early to eat!), he made us an enormous take-away lunch and had it ready when we left. I can't say enough good things about the Island Bear.

Room Tip: We had room #3 and loved it - but I would be willing to bet all the rooms are wonderful.

I'm aware that this might repeat the reviews above it, but with good reason - we've just returned from a 3 night stay in the Island Bear, and thought it was great. Excellent location - right in the middle of Bowmore. The twin room was absolutely lovely - spotless, very tastefully decorated, with amazing wooden furniture (the bathroom was particularly good in this respect - we loved the wooden washstand!), and comfortable beds. Breakfast was excellent - fruit, yoghurt, cereal and the full Scottish - all prepared faultlessly. As others have said, the Island Bear has a nautical theme, with lots of interesting knickknacks around and some great pictures. Bobby was helpful and a very good host. You should definitely book to stay here - you won't be disappointed!
