An Cuan was a delight, Fergus was most helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was very good and the house was very pleasant, clean and tidy. Enjoyed our stay.

We stayed one night at An Cuan in May 2012 during the Islay Festival of Malt and Music. The room was small, but very clean and well appointed with lovely locally made soaps, elegant bedding and towels and secure WiFi access. The location in the center of Bowmore is very convenient, walking distance to many useful amenities (grocery store, laundry, restaurants), and the town square. Fergus, the host, is an Islay native who was incredibly helpful, laid-back and welcoming. We hope to come come back again some time.

Room Tip: North Americans should note that the en suite bath is a "wet room", that is essentially a...

Pleasant accommodation, good food, helpful suggestions about what to do on the island and.. a big thank you to Fergus for helping out this old lady who didn't realise that taxis to airports are hard to come by on a weekend of beach rugby.
Thanks
Anne

We stayed at the An Cuan B&B for two nights in March/April 2012. We liked the location, the host and attention to detail. However, the room we stayed in was very small even per UK standard.

We ended up staying at An Cuan after attempting to check in to our booked accommodation elsewhere which was indescribably awful. We were recommended to try An Cuan by a local and were delighted with what we found. Fergus could not have made us any more welcome from the minute we entered. We were 'awkward' customers in that we had our 3 dogs with us (collies, so not exactly fit in the suitcase size!) but he was so accommodating and even apologetic that the room wasn't huge - not a problem for us. I must say at this point that I don't know if as many large dogs are normally welcome and this was perhaps due to our desperate situation, but Fergus certainly made them very welcome (even leaving biscuits for them on our second night).
The room (complete with sea view) was beautifully decorated with stylish bedside tables and lamps; flatscreen TV; dressing table and luxurious bedding. Even the tea/coffee tray was elegant! You had the choice of Breakfast Tea and Coffee in the room, but also in the hall there was a huge selection of herbal teas.
The bathroom was a good sized wetroom with an excellent shower. The toiletries were locally sourced from the Spirited Soap Company (another 'must' if you're on the island!) and were divine.
Breakfast both mornings was delicious, and kept us going until dinner each day. Good choice of cereals and fruit; lovely toast (not your basic sandwich loaves) and then the obligatory full Scottish (well, we were on holiday...!) with my favourite - Stornoway Black Pudding. Ishbel served us our breakfasts both mornings and was a real pleasure to chat with.
When I had originally booked our accommodation, I had deliberately avoided looking at BB's purely because of our 3 dogs - I had naively assumed that very few (if any) would accept 3 large dogs. However, having had such a wonderful experience at An Cuan I will definitely look at BB's again.
We simply can't describe how much we enjoyed the whole experience of staying at An Cuan. All we can say is that if you're looking for a relaxing, comfortable stay with a friendly, yet unobtrusive host and excellent breakfast - then An Cuan has to be number one on your list. We really hope to be back, and when one of our sets of parents head there later this year they've been told there's only one place to stay - An Cuan.
Thank you Fergus for saving our holiday!
