Lambeth Guesthouse has been refurbished in our mind to a level that some four and five stars hotels would love to be. The breakfast are impressive which means you won't need lunch with the amount of food that Margaret gives you for breakfast. John and Margaret and family are loveley host as they make you feel welcome and part of the family.

A really warm welcome that made me feel at home straight away. Liked the idea of sharing breakfast with others - as a person staying on my own, having some conversation over breakfast was good. Also pleased to see that Margaret was happy to nip out and get some soya milk for me (I'm vegan). Will definitely stay again

Two of us drove over to Kennacraig and took a ferry on Thursday - take a car, you'll need it while you are on Islay - with the assumption we could just find somewhere to stay as it was considered out of season for whisky etc. The locals told us that we were very lucky to get into Lambeth house (or anywhere for that matter) for the weekdays as there are many workers that travel over during this time. The opposite was true for the weekend which was much quieter and we were the only guests at LH for the rest of our stay. First piece of advice, definitely book a room in advance.

It seems that we were very fortunate to get into Lambeth house as it is a really excellent place to stay. We were very impressed by our first night there and just asked to stay there for our entire trip. The rooms are excellent (great power shower) and the breakfast equally impressive (you probably won't need lunch with the amount of food Margaret gives you for breakfast). The B & B is centrally located in the island and we just drove around or got taxis - we lucked out with a lift from someone to get back from the Lagavulin distillery one day. There is a pub across the road from the B & B and Duffies Bar a street away that a great selection of whiskies. All of the locals are very friendly, and overall LH is great place to base your stay.

Final thing, if you go to see the American monument - and you should - take some wellies and do the circular walk. Breathtaking views of different parts of the coastline but it is over variable ground.
