“Very pleasant country pub”
Reviewed October 18, 2012 via mobile

Had a couple of very nice meals here: it's a comfortable village pub with food which is a lot better than average - really, a lot!. Best on a cold autumn evening if you can sit by the fire, eating comfort food - lovely stews and soups. If you want a gastropub you might not like this as it may not be pretentious enough for you!

“pub & grub the way it should be”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Well worth popping over to Kippen to the Cross Keys, as it's just a superb example of a great pub with excellent cooking.

Great selection of starters, mains and desserts, excellent presentation, taste and quantity, not one of us had anything other than praise for our meals. The addition of a proper local real ale (Fallen), served in great condition, really topped it off nicely.

We went on a Sunday evening and had the added bonus of some ad-hoc folk music too. But if you wanted a quiet night's dining, and have a problem with draughts, then best ask to be seated in the back, not in the public bar (between two draught-chilling exterior doors!).

So glad you appreciate what we are trying to do her at The Keys. Sorry about the draught, working on a solution this winter. I hope the three log fires kept away the chill.....thanks again and hope to see you again. We are currently creating our own beer brewed by Fallen brewery for release this Christmas. We hope to see you again so you can let us know what you think...

“Spot on in everyway”
Reviewed September 21, 2012 via mobile

Visited with my partner and loved it. So rare to find pubs that feel like pubs , good respect for beers and is independent and it shows in the choice of drinks. Food was creative, fresh, terrific with good portions and good quality. Staff were brilliant loved it. Best atmosphere , we found in Kippen.

“Cracking gastropub!!!”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Whenever we visit the cross keys we are never disappointed. Steak pies to die for, as well as the fish dishes and other lovely dishes to tempt you. The most recent visit was no different.
The service is always top notch and the owners are very friendly.
They also have Lovely wood burning stoves to keep you cosy while you eat.

“Slightly disappointing”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

We had read some very positive reviews of the Cross Keys and had made the trip with our family for a birthday meal on a Friday evening with high expectations. The place was fairly busy, but the service was good - prompt and attentive. It has a country pub atmosphere and the menu looked good - some interesting choices to be had. In the event a couple of the dishes we had intended to order were unavailable, although there were other tasty sounding options to fall back on. In the event our meals were all fine, but certainly not as good as we had hoped, given some reviews we had read. Perhaps we had expected too much from a country pub. I certainly wouldn't put anyone off going along for a reasonable bar meal, but I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip out to Kippen again just to visit.

I can only apologise for your slight dissapointment when visiting The Keys. I do however thank for your points about "prompt & attentive" service and that you wouldn't put anybody off coming here. I only hope that you will give us a chance to match your expectationson on another visit if you are in the area.
