I stayed in Culcreuch's lodges with my family for my husband's birthday and had a great time. The lodges aren't modern and the decor is a wee bit tired but it all added to the ambience of staying in a cabin in the countryside. The view from the cabins is breathtaking of the campsie hills, in fact we all woke up early to see the sunrise on the first morning. The beds were quite firm and took a bit of getting used to though. We got a great deal with Itison which also had given us vouchers to spend on food at the castle. So we ate there on the first night and the food was good. During the day we went to Go Ape at Aberfoyle which is not for the feint-hearted, but great if you like an adventure,

If you watch TV shows set in Scotland like Monarch of the Glen and they leave you thinking "wouldn't it be great to go there?" then this is the place for you. 25 mins from Stirling in remote countryside the setting is perfect. The staff are genuinely friendly and nothing is too much bother. The bar is fantastic and the whole experience is one of feeling at ease.

It is not for the techno-fan of the modern world since you will struggle with both WiFi and mobile signals but for me that makes it better.

Room Tip: When you book try and avoid courtyard rooms and ask for one in teh main building - they are superbly...

Stayed one night on a very wintry January day. The setting and scenery around the castle was beautiful. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and the dinner in the restaurant (with roaring coal fire) was excellent. The Castle has lots of character - as would be expected. Yes, the bathroom could do with some upgrading, i.e. get rid of carpet, and the bed could be more comfortable, but the rest of the ambience made up for that. An extremely relaxing break.

I will begin by saying not one for the e-traveller who wishes constant internet connection. This baronial style ancestral great house is perfect for those who wish to have an atmospheric, sample of castle living. It would be impossible to over praise the attention and friendliness of the staff. As this is a great house there are no lifts, so anyone staying has to be prepared to use grand staircases. Open coal fireplaces and wingback chairs in the great library will be the motif of your stay. Having only expericenced the main building and not the function suites, this is a great retreat for those who wish to relax, listen to the crackle of coal fires with a good book and good meals....then mabye jump into the car and expore the local scenery, quaint tea houses and unique shopping.

A lovely 3 star hotel, food and staff were excellent! Lovely room, small bathroom. Would not take too much to bring standards up - to 4 star!

We had a restless night - spoilt the stay - mattress was past it and desperately needs replaced.

Apart from that a lovely place and worth a visit
