Fantastic just to be sitting in a bar overlooking the Ailsa course. The choice of food was limited and expensive but good quality. Friendly and efficient service.

Great views over the entire course as you are high up on a first floor. Nice service and full range of snacks and drinks.

Imagine, if you will, three keen golfers arriving at one of Scotland's if not the World's premier golf resorts really looking forward to their day out - having a light lunch in the Tappie Toorie restaurant then 18 holes on the Kintyre Course. All three have played many games over high ranking courses over the years such as Gleneagles, Loch Lomond, Kingsbarns and indeed Turnberry and so have an expectation as to what high quality venues will provide. Initially it doesn't disappoint, the staff in the pro shop are courteous and pleasant to chat with as is the chap at the Golf Academy. The clubhouse is a beautiful building very well equipped with everything just as it should be. The Tappie Toorie restaurant has stunning views and is very comfortable. Great, its living up to reputation. Now the reason why I have marked down the restaurant. The menu in my view is fairly limited in terms of snack lunch items at a reasonable price - really, limited to sandwiches at £6.25. Fair enough, that's what I would expect to pay. So Tuna Mayonnaise ordered for all of us. It's to be accompanied with crisps and salad according to the menu. Smashing, looking forward to it - it'll be fresh thick cut locally baked organic wholemeal bread no doubt with a good thick layer of creamy tuna and a pile of salad with a secret recipe dressing. Nope, wrong. What we get is two standard square slices of the cheapest supermarket brown bread cut into 4 triangles with a veneer of tuna between the slices - I'm not convinced the bread is all that fresh either. The tuna is further diluted with the addition of what appears to be capers and a few fragments of red onion. The crisps are there, all 6 of them and the green leaves dumped adjacent look a wee bit tired, there is no zingy dressing. All in all, it was absolutely average. This is not the way to sell Scottish food they really need to up their act. The coffee was good. The staff were polite and respectful but could do with being a bit more open and friendly, there is a balance to be had with guests and customers, Gleneagles nails it every time. The guy who brought our food never opened his mouth and was quite sullen. So, they have much to learn in my view and it was disappointing. Ah well, at least we had the golf to look forward to - but that's another story for another day.

Delicious fresh food served in an informal setting. Butter with the rolls served in a dish which would not support the butter knife, which fell on my glass and broke the stem clean through!
