Enjoyed our stay at this hotel, would rate it as a 4*. The room was a good size, nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The hotel is more like a country house with old fashioned style furniture, curtains and carpets although the rooms are modern. Breakfast had a very good selection of hot and cold dishes and there were plenty of waiters but despite this service of tea, coffee, toast and hot dishes was slow. Beautiful situation on the coast with the beach a stone' s throw away. Didn't eat in the restaurants as seemed over pricey so went to Eliot's in Prestwick which is a great place and not too far in the car. visited Culzean Castle which was nearby and worthwhile being a beautiful historical castle on the coast which is open to the public. We got a price of £99 per night including breakfast for this hotel and we were satisfied with the quality of the hotel and the service for this price. Wouldn't be willing to pay much more.

This is the 3rd time in as many years that I have visited this property and I offer just a few tips. Everyone in Scotland seems to dine out on Saturday night - so if you want a child free zone in the pool, try 6pm on Saturday night. The food at Turnberry is excellent but pricey. A very reasonably priced alternative is Wildiings Restaurant in Maidens - just down the road, or the newly opened Souter Johnnies Pub at Kirkoswald. More than half the diners in Wildings were recognizably Turnberry guests. The Ailsa course is being slightly altered in advance of the 2009 open - some holes being lengthened and more than 30+ new bunkers added. The use of mats is obligatory on Monday to Fridays. They have introduced a breakfast surcharge - a deplorable habit for a 5* hotel - but kippers and haddock are exempt. They've also done away with the free shortbread biscuits in your room. An element of tightness has crept in but the front line staff are still charming.

I booked a break at the Turnberry firstly for a family vacation and secondly for time to play golf with my son.

The check in procedure was fast ,smooth and polite(very efficient)

We had a cottage which maybe needed a bit of an upgrade but with to youngish children gave us a bit more flexibility certainly when it came to dining as it is a bit pricey but very good.

The main hotel is a bit of a mish mash of tastes and designs.

the positive which way outway any negatives are as follows.

Service was impeccable ,what you expect from a Westin resort but sometimes they go out of there way to make you feel special.

Golf ,managed 2 rounds on the Ailsa course this is what the hotel is really about OUTSTANDING...............

Overall a great experience.......

Just returned from a week at Turnberry with my family - including 2 children- and although the weather was bad, I have to say it was one of the best holidays we've ever had. We stayed in a cottage which gave us flexibility to do what we wanted. The cottage wasnt overly large but was comfortable. The hotel breakfasts we enjoyed very much as we did tea in the hotel lounge and evening meals in the Stagioni Restaurant

There were plenty of things for non- golfers to do. We made use of the leisure facilities - the pool was great as was the pitch and putt course- and we also enjoyed horse riding and archery at the activity centre. The setting and beach were superb.

The staff were very friendly and nothing too much trouble for them and service excellent. I cannot understand the negative reviews!

The meals and activities were overpriced and overall it wasnt a cheap option for a holiday but there was something to keep the whole family happy and so definately worth every penny!

I stayed for 2 nights with my wife and in-laws. We were booked into 2 Classic rooms on the 2nd floor.

Welcome/Check-in: The welcome was non existent, there was no door man or anyone to help remove the bags from the car. The check-in was friendly, quick and efficient. Rooms were made available to us, even though we arrived well before 3pm.

The rooms: Tastefully decorated in the old style, fantastic “Heavenly Bed”, large marble bathrooms, bright and airy. It’s ironic that we were probably staying on the only 2 nights of 2007 when air conditioning would have been welcomed!

Ailsa Bar: We took afternoon tea, the Whisky tasting and a few drinks in here on different occasions. Service and product both up to scratch, though I did pop in one morning to read the paper and have a coffee, and the staff member that was on approached every other guest except me even though I caught her eye a few times.

Turnberry Restaurant Dinner: We took the Creative (5 course) Tasting Menu with wine match for dinner on our first night. The food was exceptional, as was the service. The final 2 wine matches were a little disappointing in terms of the quality of the wines chosen. The food service slowed noticeably as the restaurant became fuller, increasing the pressure on the kitchen. Do not dine here if you want a speedy dinner, we lingered happily here for around 3 hours, any less and we would not have been able to enjoy the food and wine fully.

Turnberry Restaurant Breakfast: Again, the staff at breakfast are attentive and on the ball. There is a good selection on the continental buffet, and the hot a la carte selection is ok. It is a shame however, that you have to pay a premium for items such as kippers and pancakes or waffles that would normally be included anywhere else.

Stagioni: Had an enjoyable dinner here on the last night, looking out over the ocean from above the spa building. Food and service were top notch, and the speedier service would suit those who don’t wish to linger.

Tappie Toorie: A brasserie above the Club House with a good bar menu. Very relaxed and informal.

Spa: Pool/spa facilities excellent. The pool area is great (looking out over the ocean), and the massages were fantastic.

Pitch & Putt and the Tennis Court: Had a great time on both of these!

Outdoor Activities: A good selection, the archery was particularly fun!

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our break at Turnberry, I guess proving that you don’t have to be a golf fanatic to stay there! Yes, the hotel is pricey, and you pay through the nose for everything, but we had a fantastic time and would do it again!
