My wife and I visited the hotel restaurant on Saturday evening, 18th January.2014

On arrival we were extremely disappointed to find that the restaurant now only offers a very limited fixed price menu which bears no resemblance to what the sample al la carte style dinner menu on their website shows. The waiter said that this was due to problems and changes in the kitchen, perhaps worth mentioning this to Customers when they make a booking.

The second issue that we had was the noise and more annoyingly the foul bad language coming from the 2 tables of young boys who were in the restaurant, their language was disgusting and should not have been tolerated by the staff.

The third issue was the random old man who appeared next to our table and started to talk to us when we were eating our dinner, very off putting and to be honest rude. We assume he had something to do with the hotel as he did apologize for the boys bad language when we
mentioned it to him, not that he actually did anything about it.

The fourth an main issue was the very poor quality "pub grub" that we received. The meal arrived in well less than 10 mins so not cooked to order, what arrived was a plate with over salted stew topped with a piece of separately very undercooked bit of pastry plus 1 tiny piece of cauliflower, 1 tiny piece of broccoli, 3 baby carrots and served with what looked and tasted like instant powdered mash potatoes. Nowhere near restaurant quality yet charged £12.50 each for 1 course!

We would normally have complained at the restaurant but they were so short staffed we had to stand for 5 plus mins even to pay for our meal. Another couple had to wait an age to be met by the one waiter on duty as he was busy attending to the 20 plus boys and the barmaid was busy
pouring drinks for their table, if the hotel wants to take big bookings they should up their staffing levels to cope.

We didn't complain at the restaurant but did email them within 1/2 hour of returning home but some 6 days later we still have not even received an acknowledgement from them and in our opinion this just illustrates their lack of Customer Service skills or perhaps they just don't care!

It was our wedding anniversary and we decided to try the restaurant as it was getting very good reviews last year on Trip Advisor, perhaps we were just unlucky but all in all it was a very poor experience for us and one that we certainly wont be repeating.

Had passed by this place many times and decided to drop by for lunch with my wife just after new year. Based on most of the reviews we must have been really unlucky...
I ordered salmon fish cake to start with (my wife didn't want a starter). The fish cake was served topped with a "creamy leek sauce". This proved to be a pretty sickly combination - which I did not finish.
For main course my wife chose smoked haddock in batter (why served smoked haddock in batter I don'y know ?). I chose risotto topped with flaked smoked haddock. Both dishes were not at all appetising with the risotto being particularly bad - main reason being it was not made from Italian rice (e.g. Arborio or Carnorli) - but instead was a rice pudding type.....
We have eaten at some fine restaurants in the past - but in saying that we both are not hard to please.
As I said at the start maybe we have been unlucky - but one thing is for sure we won't take the opportunity to try our luck again at this place again........
