We recently stayed for two nights at the Anchorage, with a deal we got from Groupon. It's a wee hotel with 19 rooms, just 2 mins walk from the centre of Troon.
We had room 15, which was a nice wee room, except it only has a one wee window overlooking the houses behind the hotel. Not really a problem, since as far as I'm concerned, the hotel room is only for sleeping in, and not spending a lot of time in.
We had dinner in the bar, which is really nice. The staff were attentive, and went out of their way to make sure my wife - who is coeliac - had a nice meal. I went for the steak pie, which I have to say is possibly one of the nicest steak pies I have ever tasted.
Drinks-wise, the prices aren't to bad. The vast majority of Glasgow pubs are more expensive.
Breakfast was served in a dining room opposite the bar, and again was really nice. There was cereals, bread, jam, butter, a toaster, and tea/coffee, all laid out and you could help yourself. The staff also came round and took orders for cooked breakfasts, and again were very helpful.
I would definately recommend the Anchorage. All the memorabilia round the walls is fantastic, both golf, and from the days of when it was a coaching inn. A really nice little hotel.More
