this hotel is a good value weekend break. staff are very friendly. food is excellent, the menu is extensive. food was piping hot. it is on the sea front and our room looked onto the ferry terminal. if you don't want to eat in the hotel there is plenty other restaurants to chose from. the décor is a bit tired, but the rooms are very clean. we were only there for 2 night but the towels were changed daily.

Room Tip: room 3 has a great sea view

An old hotel with a lot of charm. Stayed for 2 nights, very large room , very comfortable and with a seaview; however needs decoration done. We had a meal the first night in the bar. Food was to great taste. Had a steak and was cooked as I wanted it: rare. Breakfast was lovely as it was cooked to order and preference.
Will stay here again

Just back from a golfing trip to Troon using a Groupon deal for the hotel. Fantastic deal offering a twin room, full scottish breakfast and a bottle of wine. Cannot fault the value for money or the staff service. Room was dated as people say but it was big and really comfy. Got a great sleep. Bathroom has no shelfing so there is nowhere to put your toiletries but that is a minor annoyance.

Only disappontment was the bar / restaruant. Ambience was great but prices were high for food and drink expecially when compared to the price of the groupon deal. Burger and chips for £8.95 was disappointing as even the though the burger was hand made the chips were like re-heats from the local fish and chip shop and were very chewy. Thats OK by the way but prices have to be adjusted accordingly and that meal would have sat better at £6.95.

Bar prices were high also at £4 for a nip of single malt. There are lots of restaraunts and pubs nearby that offer better value so if I went back I would probably eat / drink outwith the hotel.

Overall very good.

We got a great groupon deal for this hotel but, even for the small amount paid, we wouldn't go back.

Dinner was booked for 8pm. Although the food was excellent, the service was so slow. We ordered 2 courses and got our desert at 10pm. Diners at the table beside us had to leave as they had waited so long.

We didn't get a wink of sleep as the bed was so uncomfortable. Our room was right at the fire exit door. Door closer was faulty which meant the door slammed shut every time someone came in or went out. We were booked for 2 nights but left after only one.

If I could give a piece of advice to the hotel it would be to fix the door closer and PLEASE replace the toilet brush in that room. I couldn't bear to look at it!

Just back from a very relaxing few days at the Anchorage. We normally pop in for a meal when visiting Troon for a day trip so we jumped at the chance of the great two night offer mentioned in previous reviews.

The rooms are tired and in real need of investment but we found our room (no 10) to be spacious and with a great sea view.

The food was very much of the pub grub variety. An extensive menu was available with something for everyone. There was also several fish dishes available on the Anchorage 'Fish Board'. We ate in the Bar on the both nights we stayed and were not disappointed. We also had an excellent cooked breakfast on both mornings. The hard working staff are also worth mentioning. We found them cheerful and helpful at all times.

Certainly not the Ritz by any means but if you go to Anchorage with a realistic view of what to expect then you won't be disappointed.

Back again on another Groupon deal - really good value. Two nights B&B for two people and one nights evening meal with a drink included, As before, I can only repeat that this is an old hotel and if you want 5* accomm - pay for it! We were in Room 4 (Talisker) this time - sea view and excellent wi-fi connection. It was non-existant in Room 6 where we stayed previously and I had to camp out in the bar to get signal. We ate in the Anchorage both evenings and had no complaints about the food or the service. I do have a couple of suggestions though. Our room has no shelf or glasses provided in the bathroom - toilet bags had to go on the floor and we had to 'pinch' a couple of glasses from the bar to be able to clean our teeth - a couple of hooks and some plastic cups even would be a start! And - I'm sorry, but orange juice costs about 60p a litre for the value cartons - please splash out and stop serving that awful squash stuff at breakfast. It spoils what is otherwise a lovely meal! The cereals, yoghurt and our poached eggs and bacon were of excellent standard. I have no problem, as other reviewers seem to, in pouring hot water over a tea bag or putting bread into a toaster - that way it is fresh - so all else was fine.We totally enjoyed our return visit and hope to be back soon.
