“Great location, fantastic food and friendly staff”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

Accommodation was very spacious and absolutely spotless, fantastic view. Meal on first night couldn't have been any better the steak pie comes highly recommended. First drink came free. Breakfast set you up for the day, it consisted of; help yourself cereals, orange juice. toast and yoghurt and a cooked breakfast served at the table. The staff since arriving have been very friendly and helpful

Room Tip: Request Talisker, very spacious and fantastic view.

Room was clean and very tidy, four poster bed was a unexpected bonus, the view of the harbour was worth a picture or too.
Breakfast excellent everything you could possibly want and more.
Staff very helpful.
Resturant outstanding value and extremely tasty with a large choice for all tastes.
All in all a great wee break!

Have just spent a really enjoyable two days here on a Groupon deal with a girl friend. We stayed in Room 6 (Bowmore) overlooking the sea and ferry terminal. Room was huge with four beds for the two of us and loads of storage space. To answer a comment in an earlier review - no, you don't necessarily get a nasty room if you are on a deal or voucher. Ours was clean and adequately stocked with toiletries, towels and tea/coffee kit. Staff were friendly, helpful and obliging. I had an iron and board delivered within ten minutes of booking in. Food and service were top quality. I cannot find fault with my stay at all. People should remember before they post reviews on here that this hotel is celebrating 200 years of existence in 2012. It is old and quirky and that is its charm. Yes, some areas are a little 'tired' but if you expect 5 star accommodation and surroundings you should book a 5 star hotel! I have stayed in more expensive hotels and not experienced the friendliness and warmth we received here. Would have no hesitation rebooking.

fantastic hotel went with my sisters for 2 nights room was clean, bed linen and towels clean, and fresh. food was amazing and well presented, breakfast was a full english and was well cooked staff were lovely and really helpful. had stayed before but my sisters had not and they loved it .some of the comments left were nothing like the experience we had, would book here again for sure, people should remember the hotel is 200 years old and full of character.the decor would not stop us from returning .

Stayed at the hotel on 26 & 27th August 2012. Room was large and very clean and basic, all we were looking for. However we were in room number 10 which is up the top landing in the attic, I was rather disappointed with the state of ceiling on way up stairs huge holes and wood rotten didn't,t look nice. Would not take a lot to repair and freshen up. The food served in the bar was 1st class, the staff were all very nice.

Room Tip: Don,t take a room on top level unless repairs are done.

I stayed here last Saturday and when i review a hotel I am realistic about the price that I paid, and what I expect. It wasn't the Hilton, but I never paid Hilton prices. It was a unpretentious hotel, slap bang in the middle of troon offering a clean room and serving drinks at reasonable prices. Nice staff so it's fair to say I will def be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend

All I can say is having a great time here. Staff are so friendly, food amazing, and our room is massive, very clean and overlooking the sea front. Would highly recommend. This was a special offer but would have happily paid full price. The location is great and such a lovely wee town. Lynda and Jim from Falkirk
