My wife and I stayed for one night on a special offer DB&B break at the Marine in Troon for our anniversary. I was concerned that we would get a lower standard room but we were given one overlooking the sea front which was really nice. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Good facilities on site with a decent swimming pool, sauna etc.
Certainly would stay again.

The hotel itself was nice, and the room was spacious. Lovely views onto the 18th fairway of the golf course. Room was clean and the staff were pleasant. If I had one gripe about the room it would be that the double bed was just two singles pushed together, but I'm aware this happens in many hotels.

Breakfast was good, pretty standard fare for a four star hotel. However, there weren't many tables so it was very busy and several people were turned away and told to come back later on. There also didn't seem to be enough members of staff as the people waiting to be seated were waiting for around 5-10 minutes before the maître d showed up to tell them to take a seat in the bar area since there were no tables available at the time. Several tables were available but they were still messy with previous diners plates etc. on them. Definitely more staff for breakfast wouldn't have gone amiss to help clear the tables for incoming customers. I can only say this for certain on the weekend I visited, so they may have just been low on staff that particular weekend.

The bar prices are fairly expensive, and we tried to order a bottle of champagne from the menu, but there was none available, so we opted for a bottle of sparking Rose instead... Which also wasn't available. The barman offered us a more expensive bottle instead, which we refused, so he offered us a cheaper bottle they had in the back - this wasn't very impressive since it was Valentine's weekend, so you'd think they'd be stocked up on champagne (especially being a golf hotel as well when many guests may want to order champagne to celebrate a good round at the end of the day!). The worst part of this was that the bartender dealing with us initially passed us off to a 'lower' member of staff (who I think was a trainee) because he didn't want to tell us that they didn't have the product we'd requested... I wasn't very impressed with this level of customer service - we weren't annoyed or anything, but it would have been good to deal with the same member of staff consistently, instead of passing the buck to a trainee member of staff, who was obviously quite nervous.

Overall, it was an okay experience, but definite improvements are required to enhance the customer experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view - on a clear day you can see Arran

Thank you very much for the review, whilst I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay I am sorry if you experienced any shortfall in service. It is a little difficult to comment specifically about your concerns as you stayed in February but your feedback is appreciated nonetheless. Thanks for staying with us and I hope that we see you again.

Just returned from a two day break on a Secret Escape deal. The hotel is full of character, has wonderful old world charm whilst attempting to provide all the modern touches of a first class establishment. All the staff are friendly and extremely helpful. We were given an upgrade to one of the best rooms in the hotel ( 210 ) overlooking Royal Troon golf course and the Irish sea. Our only reservations on the room would be the small bath and lack of trouser press and fridge. The swimming pool and spa facilities are of a good standard and well run. The only real concern surrounds the restaurant. It is in a wonderful position with panoramic views and the staff, as elsewhere are very attentive. The menu, though not really a la carte, seemed quite adequate and the food up to standard. We therefore booked for the second evening expecting a completely different options menu. Unfortunately, the menu was unchanged from the night before so we ate in the bar, which turned out very well thankfully. One would expect more from the restaurant of such an establishment. Breakfasts were also excellent but a £5 supplement for a kipper in a hotel in Scotland where one would expect it as a staple item is, I would suggest exorbitant. There was also an extra charge if tomato juice was required. PLEASE!!!! Although only small complaints in the general scheme of things, they are situations that grate on guests and could stop them returning. Please management, take note. Otherwise great value for money.

Room Tip: 210. Super views with balcony and three windowed bay.

We're just back from another relaxing break at The Marine Hotel. We stayed in room 202, which is a deluxe double (it has a separate lounge area) and is ideal if you are staying for a few nights or is perfect place for a pre dinner drink if you have friends staying in different rooms. The bedroom itself was spacious, with a very comfortable king size bed.
There is a SPA area, gym and beauty treatment area if you want the to relax and unwind. Every member of staff we met, was helpful, chatty and willing to offer advice.

The clientele was mixed with different age groups, some for a short break with other on golfing holidays.

The views from the hotel are excellent and only add to the sense of peace and quiet.

I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a good quality accommodation with the added bonus of good staff and the chance to unwind.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a sea view.

My partner and i went on a voucher deal and the receptionist looked down her nose at us didnt tell us where the dining room was or where the breakfast was going to be held or what time it was available at.The couple behind us who were paying more and not on a voucher deal were given more of a welcoming than us as i had returned to reception desk as i was unable to open the room door i heard their welcoming which was completely different from ours.We also lost out on £20 each for spa deal as it was fully booked and they wouldnt exchange it to either money off our meal or drinks bill which was mentioned in the deal so we ate n drank out.The receptionist was very unhelpful and said thats it nothing she could do .The most helpful and trying to help us was Dorothy the head housekeeper,

Thank you very much for your review. I am of course very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. As I said in our original exchange I do not accept your description of the reception staff. One of the best assets of the hotel is the friendly welcome, how someone ends up in the hotel is of no relevance to the team, guests are guests and our aim is to deliver an outstanding experience to everyone.
It is a shame that you do not mention that you were offered treatment times that you chose not to use, or the offer of a return trip and full use of our Leisure Club in order to receive your treatments as this changes the feel of your review somewhat. Again I apologise that you were disappointed.

We were looking to go to the lake district but booked last minute using a secret escape deal that seemed too good to be true but we weren't dissapointed. The drive there was straight forward and very scenic, the building on first sight was beautiful and impressive and our welcome from the doorman and receptionist was friendly and the receptionist was very efficient and quick to check us in while all the time chatting about the area and the hotel facilities. We had a lovely sea facing room which was both traditional but with modern touches. We viewed the gym and pool which both looked great but unfortunately we didn't get chance to use them. We booked the restaurant on route as we were advised it gets busy and we witnessed several people not get their first choice of dining time or not a table at all, was well worth booking though and ee booked for the second night after the first meal, we recommend 'cullen skink' to start which we had twice!...breakfast was lovely and the staff were very accommodating even to those that came on or just after 10am when breakfast finishes. With easy access to the beach and a short walk to the lovely town we had overall a lovely stay for a great price.thankyou.
