“Relaxing spa break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

The thing that makes this hotel is the staff - they can't do enough for you. We booked a spa break on the hotel website but it didn't book what we chose, and although this ended up costing us more than we thought, we needed time away so chose to go ahead. We were allocated a corner, top floor room as it was the only one with a shower cubicle (as opposed to a shower over bath as I'm unable to step into a bath), and fitted the bill for our leisure club upgrade. We couldn't have asked for any more. It was spacious, had a huge bed, quiet and warm (we stayed in November) with good in-room amenities. A couple of small issues at the beginning of our two-night stay were dealt with professionally and quickly by reception staff, and they showed concern for my reason for walking between crutches at the time. Our package included 2 x mini spa treatments each, which were bookable on arrival and with no problems. Reception were good enough to offer a money-off voucher for an additional treatment after I enquired about a voucher I had which wasn't valid for the spa. We had a DBB package and the food did not disappoint, as well as the restaurant team. On our second night in the restaurant we asked (tentatively) if the heat could be turned up a little and this was seen to swiftly. If you're interested, have a look at the paintings in the restaurant - we thought they were particularly unique. The bar was warm, welcoming and that's just the atmosphere. The bar staff were knowledgeable and friendly, and again were genuinely concerned as to the requirement for the crutches. Other regular guests were friendly which only added to the homely atmosphere of the hotel. Newspapers were delivered for us as requested, and the young-at-heart concierge was a hoot!
As I was unable to swim due to injury at the time of our visit, I was particularly looking forward to using the Jacuzzi. Disappointingly, this was out of order and my husband got talking to a regular who said this was common. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect facilities to be in working order and made a point to mention this. The water in the swimming pool was (in our opinion) too cold for a leisure pool and the ceramic at water level showed definite scum marks. It was clear that the pool area is not a priority for housekeeping - as the ground is at eye level for me whilst in the water, I could also clearly see fluff and general muck along the poolside area. The leisure staff saw my disability upon entering the club area and offered us both the use of a family changing room - very much appreciated as I was particularly unsteady without my crutches and was grateful for my husband's help. Another reference to the staff there - always on the lookout to help in my opinion.
We didn't go golfing or even leave the hotel during our break so can't comment on the nearby area. It was a lovely, relaxing break during which we were looked after and fed well. Exactly what we were looking for (bar the dodgy pool!)

Room Tip: Corner suite recommended, facing golf course or try to get an upgrade (or join Leisure Breaks for go...

Excellent hotel, lovely room, food and friendly staff. 10 minute walk to station and town, local bus and ayr bus runs nearby. Tables outside if lucky with the weather which we were. Very quiet and lovely views to golf course and beach. Could not fault this hotel or the price.

Had a lovely time at the Marine Hotel, welcome chilled bottle of wine waiting in our room when we arrived.
Suite had a perfect view as promised, staff very helpful in all
departments.
Dinner was first class made all the better with nice smile from the young blonde waitress.
Looking forward to our next visit.

Enjoyed a great night DBB at the Marine Hotel which is situated just by the beach in Troon. Have stayed there on many occasions before and again was not disappointed. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive. The view from the restaurant looks on to Royal Troon Golf Course and Arran in the distance. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: The best rooms are overlooking the golf course.

We were party of 5 ladies celebrating retirement with our friends looking forward to nice relaxing overnight break away... Receptionist on arrival was very helpful and girls at the spa were lovely too. Went into bar in the afternoon for a little drink table dirty even though not very busy was about 4pm, bar area very messy 4 members of staff on we asked for no ice in two of our drinks but staff to busy chatting to each other, one of them looking in the mirror at there hair, ice was put in all drinks, minor yes.....Went for dinner food was lovely but disappointed that we were in 4 star hotel that glassware did not match, paris goblets for water glasses, different wine glasses for us all. We ordered coffee no teaspoons on saucers had to ask for milk and sugar. Left dining back into bar, went to bar to order drinks I had to wait till 2 members of staff discussed there share of tips before I was acknowledged I was not very happy about this. I actually have worked in the hospitality industry for 27years and feel there was no supervision whatsoever for these young members of staff they were left to there own devises and was very noticeable.....hopefully for yourselves not to too many as it is a lovely hotel with lots of positives going for it.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. We were just in a standard room and the view was disappointing - a bit of roof, but otherwise the room was a good size and nicely furnished. Breakfast was excellent, with a big choice of hot and cold food.
The hotel is about a mile from the town centre so we walked in and out and took in the views. This hotel is very grand with views over the golf courses. The bar and other facilities are very good and the gym is excellent, with individual TV's at each machine.
We ate in the restaurant one night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very efficient and we didn't feel hurried or rushed through our meal as you do in some restaurants. I would definitely return to this hotel if the price was right and I was in the area.
