“Excellent Hotel - Friendly Staff”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

We recently visited the Marine Hotel in Troon for an Anniversary, it was a very enjoyable visit. The hotel staff were very attentive and friendly. The bedroom was very comfortable and lovely, and had great views over the golf course. The inclusive evening meal and breakfast were very tasty. There is lots to do nearby - we enjoyed a trip to nearby Dean Castle Country Park and the Dick Institute (museum) which is also in Kilmarnock.

Room Tip: Fantastic views from rooms to the West and South have great views over the golf course and sea.

We arrived on a Friday evening for a 2 night weekend stay. 2 adults and a 10 year old child. The hotel was easy to find coming in from the A77 and it lies on the edge of town, surrounded by golf course. Checkin was quick and friendly and we soon found our way to our lovely corner room looking south. The room had everything we needed and was nicely presented. We wandered down to the Arran bar which was buzy but cosy. The next day, after a good breakfast, we went out to Culzean Castle and the Burns Museum. It was a wet day so we came back early for a swim in the excellent hotel pool. It was a lovely big pool, nice and warm, with a jacuzzi and steam rooms. We had not booked a package with Dinner, but the dining room seemed popular and of a good standard, however we went to seek out the Pavilion cafe (fish and chip) shop in Troon that was recommended on tripadvisor, where we had a nice fish tean for £7 each. You need a car or taxi as it is the other end of town. On Sunday we woke up to a lovely day and the setting of the hotel is just stunning in the sunshine. Altogether we had a lovely stay in Troon and at this hotel.

we were warmly welcomed by the hotel staff who made us feel appreciated, a most enjoyable experience for which we will certainly return and the food was excellent.
the hotel is well situated for exploring the Ayrshire coast
we had an upgraded room with television in both the lounge area and bedroom, a nice addition is the provision of of a coffee pod machine just what you need when you awake

Birthday treat here which was very good. A bit busy when we arrived so felt rushed through Pool area clean and bright. Jacuzzi lovely although it is on a very short cycle (5 mins) turns off for 5/10 mins, so you are just beginning to enjoy it and then have to get out! Neck massage and facial treatments were excellent - so relaxed nearly fell off bed. Lunch was disappointing, it was on a deal otherwise would have complained. Baked potato with tuna turned out to be two baked potatoes - a bit much for lunch. However it worked well as my daughter had the other baked potato - her risotto was dreadful. A watery mush! It was a lovely day so able to sit out on verandah overlooking sea and golf course.......absolutely wonderful.

Room Tip: Arrive before 11 am to have a more relaxed time.

I travelled to the marine hotel through a groupon spa treatment and lunch deal - considering how many people must have used this deal the spa staff seemed very conused about how it should run - there was a lot of confusion about whether we should stay in dressing gowns after the treatment - they assured us that we could stay in dressing gowns for lunch in the restaurant - only to walk in to a restaurant full of dressed people - so we had to return embarrassed to the room. At the restaurant the staff were absolutely horrendous - several staff were hanging about at the bar messing about, laughing, talking about customers and ignoring staff, incredibly making farting noises when customers left the room and being openly rude to an elderly man who was on his own - i have never seen such terrible bar staff and certainly did not expect it in a place like this. The only positives were nice food and a good treatment but the confusion about how the day ran and bar staff completedly ruined it - we left straight after lunch instaed of spending the day enjoying the facilities - not to be recommended!

Only spent one night here and wished we had planned to stay longer. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Set in the midst of the Troon golf course it is quiet and scenic. Anyone interested in golf should consider this location.

Just back from 3 nights on couples golf trip. No better place than Marine Hotel to watch sun set (around9:45) over Royal Troon golf course and Isle of Arran in hotel bar! Sweet. Hotel is completely updated inside with spacious rooms and great views ( maybe the chandeliers could go) Nice staff/service. Cable tv offering could be upgraded a bit. Food quite good. A definite stay on next trip.
