Big old Victorian spa hotel. Has a grand feel to it. Lovely grounds. Room was fine-good views once the mist cleared. Dog friendly. Dinner was quite good (about £15 main course). Bar prices reasonable. Excellent breakfast. The town is full of hotels, not much more, so it is a touring base. One has to eat in a hotel. There are coach tours here but that didn't pose a problem. Decor isn't top notch but this is not a very expensive hotel. Nice and clean. Other reviewers make comment about staff-I don't care where they originate from as long as they are polite and helpful and those we met were.

Room Tip: Front facing, first floor corner room was good. I think individual travellers, as opposed to coach t...

was starting to worry about hotel when driving from oxford to inverness for work boss texting to say they struggling to book a hotel for 5 nights anyway got the text hotel booked staying in strathpeffer which near dingwall a bit out of the way but it a rooof over head ...lol
anyway arriving a hotel nice gardens and stunning view over the mountains the hotel itself looking very nice from the front ..unfortuntley that where it ends the receptionist was pleasent enough and she upgraded my room when i checked in (dread to think what original was like ) lol upgraded to rm126 i think which in years gone bye probably the servants quarters .. had a breath taking view of gutters and wall and other guests windows ..the bathroom had a clear window which meant you had to leave blinds down the suite was avocardo colour with a badly fitting white mismatched toilet seat then wouldnt stay up the shower was tempermental and had leaked badly for years judging by state of wall by bath the room it self was fairly clean odd bit of wallpaper lifting ..the tv was a very small siver lcd on a wallbracket about 7 foot off ground which was not very comfortable to watch only had 5 channels (did notice freeview aerial on roof ) wifi was useless ..so to food evening meal £20 fixed price no bar meals but strathpeffer hotel opposite do reasonly priced bar meals .. but to be fair breakfast was very good for a buffet type just let the coach party go first as can get manic ..lol to sum this hotel up it was probably very nice years ago but reduced to doing bulk coach partys now ..ps 5 nights single room b&b the company paid £578 ....

The entrance of the hotel park reminds us the entrance of a great mansion.
The architecture of the building was truly impressive & we had a splendid view of the front park from our superior room.
The hotel could look quite old but it has all the commodities than we could expect : lift, spacious room, cleanliness ...
Be aware that we had a tourist bus during our stay that make impossible to dine at the hotel restaurant after 7.15 pm. The reception was not able to recommend us an open restaurant on a Monday evening (we had to go back to Inverness to dine in steak house restaurant).

Reception not willing to assist with changing rooms. Had room 319 under the roof: 8 stairs up and several corridors with two suitcases. That was to much for me. Girl at the reception laughed and lied in my face when I asked for another room. Dirty spots on the sheet, hot water only when you put the central heating on in summer. No toiletpaper in bathroom, had to run 8 stairs down because hotelphone did not work. In case of an emergency you cannot ask for help. Visitors are treated like cattle. Unfriendly towards guests. AVOID !!

Checked in at 5pm to be told that dinner was fully booked and we would have to eat elsewhere. Next morning left sitting in bar while they relaid tables for breakfast and then forgotten about for 10 minutes until I went in to enquire what was happening. No eggs or tomatoes left at 9.15 although service was until 9.30. "They won't be making any more" Tried to order coffee at 11.30 but "no-one is available to make it". Car blocked in car park by staff cars. When my friend checked in to his room the window had been left open and the television was sitting in a puddle of water. "It will soon dry out". Free WiFi but don't know anyone who could make it work. No battery in television remote. Bar supposed to be open till 11pm but shutters slammed down at 10.25 and told we should go and find the night porter. Why would anyone want to come back. Hotel obviously relies on bus tours for business and the solo holiday maker is perhaps more of a nuisance.

Room Tip: Make sure you avoid room 5. This opens straight off reception and you will be woken by staff arrivin...

This beautiful old building is not the Hilton but has character, quirkiness, history and is just a delight. Built in the 1880's it could use a few little finishes but I just loved staying there. No we didn't have a double bed but twin beds but the room was reasonably large, had a kettle with tea and coffee and biscuits supplied, a hair dryer and was clean. The staff work really hard and are very pleasant. We had dinner and two breakfasts and they were tasty. If you plan on eating your dinner there let the staff know in advance. Good little bar and lovely gardens. During the war this old Dame was used as an infirmary and prison.
WiFi is free and although stated as everywhere, we could only use it in the main areas downstairs.
No AC.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very different. Just take it as it comes. This is an old interesting place!

We only stayed here 1 night thank goodness, what a gloomy, dull hotel well past its sell by date this hotel could benefit from a complete overhall especially the windows which were falling to bits. Scalding hot water with a shower which was almost impossible to adjust I was left with the mixer on/off tap in my hand when I tried to turn it off, ended up having very hot water pouring down I had to jump out very quickly before I ended up suffering scalding burns
The breakfast on the other hand was really good good quality bread toasted beautifully excellant tea, coffee, along with a large selection of fruit, cereals and egg, bacon etc
If you are walking up the drive after dark ensure you have a torch as it is pitch black no lighting at all we had to walk very slowly to ensure we stayed on the drive
Pity its so lacking in so many things as the hotel must have been stunning at some point

Room Tip: The wifi in the room was quick and no break up
