“Remote with a real buzz”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

We have stayed on several occasions at the Applecross Inn and it never fails to deliver. The seafood in particular is superb and generally very well priced. Great local real ale and a continual buzz about the bar add to the ambiance. The size of the rooms is constrained by the shape of the building and site although they provide good accommodation and generally a fantastic view across the bay towards Raasay. A great base for walking, climbing, kayaking, cycling or just strolling and relaxing, Judith runs a fine hostelry and is supported by great staff. We will be back!

Our friends had visited here many times before and had raved about the food and atmosphere; I'm so glad that our visits proved them right!

We ate here two nights in a row - both time the food was exceptional (especially prawns and mussels). One night we ate outside in the sunshine, the second we managed to secure a cosy table near the bar.

Staff were friendly and knowledgeable; the menu was interesting and varied, and overall prices were reasonable.

The pub is understandably always busy and they don't take bookings unless you're a resident at the adjoining B&B, however we never waited very long. It definitely is worth any waiting you may do.

I hope that we will have the chance to return again in the future.

Agree with previous comments that this Inn is not 5* luxury but it is in so many others aspects - great food, friendly staff and comfortable bedroom overlooking the water! We will certainly be back for a visit but next time for 2 nights, and will be sure to book in plenty time.

Room Tip: Room 5 - overlooking water, comfortable and a bath with shower.

Visited for dinner with friends a while ago and we had the seafood platters and lots of other nibbles to share amongst about 6 of us - the langoustines are delicious, all the seafood is worth a detour - thoroughly sated and happy - happy to return anytime

The bar is small but very friendly - a great place for an evening of eating, rabbiting and drinking !

We stayed for 3 nights in June. Wish it had been 3 weeks. The area is fantastic, drive over the pass, stop at the top for a look at the view, you can't look at it when you're driving. The pub is superb. All the staff are really friendly and there is always a buzz about the place. Very relaxing. We ate there every night, and some lunch times and breakfasts. All excellent. Save up and have the sea food platter. See photo. This is an old pub so don't expect massive swish rooms. The rooms are very good though. Best shower in ours we've had anywhere. Whole place is just perfect. I'm going back.

Room Tip: We had No 4 which is good, Kids had No 8 on ground floor. All face the sea. Bit of noise from the ba...

Applecross is a very special place. The dramatic (and, when you first do it, it frightening) drive over the Bealach Na Ba (one of the highest roads in Europe with hairpin bends and stunning views) brings you in to a beautiful community on the bay that feels like you are a million miles from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The gaelic name for Applecross translates as 'The Sanctuary' and that is exactly how Applecross feels, a sanctuary for mind, body and spirit. Wild deer roam about unrestricted, Highland Cows (or Heilan Coos as they're called up here!) graze in a field and seals bask on the rocks. A short walk up a rocky, crystal clear river reward you with jumping salmon and towering, ancient scots pine trees. The Applecross Inn is the centrepiece of this community. It offers a varied menu, but specialises in local seafood. You are served king prawns and mussels by the man who caught them that morning in the bay. The food is magnificent and cooked perfectly. It isn't particularly cheap, but you wont begrudge a penny. You can sit outside and enjoy the sun setting over the bay, or try to get a spot in the main bar area where you can feel part of it all and enjoy the lively, welcoming atmosphere. We played cards and leafed through a book left for visitors to record their wildlife sightings, including deer, seals, eagles, otters and more. There is an excellent selection of Scottish single malt whiskeys and some good real ales, including some from the award winning Isle of Skye Brewery and one brewed on site and named after the magnificent 'Bealach Na Ba' road. The Applecross Inn is not to be missed.

What a wonderful restaurant. We visited in the summer when the weather was fantastic. So sunny, we had to go inside! The sea food was out of this world and so fresh. We stayed at the campsite behind in the Wigwams. Fantastic scenery, especially when it doesn't get dark until after 11pm.

If you like driving, the road to Applecross is stunning and high !
