Had an amazing girls weekend here in November. Not much to do locally, however that’s exactly what we wanted. Amazing views, scenery is insane! We had 5-6 stags fighting outside the window every morning and stunning sunsets in the hot tub. House was immaculate and very well catered for. Beds comfortable and lovely log burner kept the place toasty! We will be back! Thank you!
If you are looking for an accommodation next to nature and situated in a small town, this is the place that you are looking for. The house is well stocked in terms of kitchen amenities, we had a great time cooking and bonding as a group. We all love the hot tub and of course sitting by the fireplace.
Arrived to a clean lodge & a welcome basket containing popcorn, chocolate & some games. Also contained poo bags & temporary holiday dog tags which I thought was a great idea. The location of the lodge is remote & the views are amazing. Lots of walks & white sand beaches nearby. Also a pub & some restaurants near.
Three negatives...On our first night, we discovered that one of the oven doors didn’t click shut, which was a bit annoying. We had to prop it closed in order to cook dinner the entire weekend. Saying that, maybe the previous guests hadnt reported it.
Secondly, the driveway is so steep & constructed of such material that you had to take a long run with the car to get up it - and yet still the cars tyres were sliding about & getting stuck. Some tarmac would sort this.
Lastly, there was an outside tap, but we had numerous muddy boots and a muddy dog to clean each time we came back to the lodge. It would have been helpful to have a small hose attached to the tap for guests to use. I know there is a dog kennel available, but this didn’t help with a muddy dog!! An outside hose in all the lodges would be advantageous & help with keeping the lodges clean.
I first visited the Achiltibuie 30 years ago, and it made an indelible impression. I have found the opportunity to come back on around 5 occasions, and with my wife and children for the first time in 2014. We decided to look for something to rent in late spring, and were very pleased to have secured 4 nights in Lochlolly Lodge at the end of August. Although we knew that the location is utterly remarkable, we were all completely transfixed by the views from every window (barring the twin bedroom, which faces to the front, but we are only a group of four so that room went unused!). This time we didn't take any of the high energy options of climbing Stac Pollaidh (which we did last time we were here, and is a fantastic walk) but stuck to local walks in the immediate area. The hot tub is a great option, we spent a number of sessions lounging in that. The sauna also had much more use than I would have expected, and was a very good addition. Achiltibuie stores hugely surpassed my expectations, providing lovely local produce (we had kippers, sausages, bacon, smoked salmon and delicious eggs) , as well as fever tree tonic, some great gins, and plenty of beer :-). Also, the Summer Isles hotel and Salt Kitchen both provided memorable and very high quality dinners . We also drove to Lochinver on our final night for dinner in the UK's most northerly Michelin starred restaurant (The Albannach Hotel) which was wonderful. The house is very well equipped and appointed; it is a tremendous thing to be able to enjoy this rugged and beautiful landscape whilst enjoying all of the comforts of home. Enjoying our breakfasts and lunches with the doors slid wide open to the huge panoramic and beautiful view was an unforgettable experience. We were all very sad when the time came to leave the house, and would all return in an instant.
Stac Polly Cottage is a stunning new house in a fabulous location with panoramic views out across the water to The Summer Isles. The fixtures and fittings are excellent. The house could not be better.
My wife and I and friends visited Am Fuaran 3 times during June this year. The seafood is locally caught and wonderfully well cooked and all very reasonably priced. 3 huge scallops as starter £8.20, whole lobster main course for £19.95, langoustines and dressed crab are all great. David and his wife Catriona and her brother Andrew are excellent hosts. If you like langoustines, then ask in advance about the extra-large ones. They are like small lobsters and wonderful eating.
The location is also stunning with fabulous views over The Summer Isles.
We also visited Salt Seafood Café twice during June this year. As Am Fuaran, seafood is locally caught and wonderfully well cooked and all very reasonably priced. Much better quality and much better value than its near neighbour in Achiltibuie. A small venue so be sure to book, and take your own wine, plus cash to pay.
The local store is excellent. Fresh lobster, langoustines (ask David at Am Fuaran about the extra-large ones) and fish can all be sourced locally.
David Last at Am Fuaran bar is also a keen fisherman, very helpful with local advice, and has a boat for rent on Loch Oscaig.
Gabby Rex who lives at Batentarbat lodge is also a keen fisher and very helpful. Her estate includes one bank of the River Garvie plus all the lochs west of the road into Achiltibuie.
Lots of wee hard fighting trout in the lochs. We caught most in Upper Dornie, Oscaig and Beistie.
This house is fabulous, the only negative was leaving! The people we met walking around the village couldn't have been more friendly. The house was all the pictures promised and more. Book and go, you will not be disappointed!
We recently visited this lovely home at the end of January and were blessed with amazing weather for the whole week, which made it a perfect holiday. The house is just as the photos, well maintained and has fabulous views we loved sitting in the recliners on the first floor and looking out to sea or watching the sunsets. Everything is done to a high standard and the bed in the master suite was very comfortable. We enjoyed using the sauna and hot tub after our long walks around the coast. As it was January, all the recommended local restaurants were closed, but we used the local shop a couple of times which carries a good stock. You will need to take plenty of provisions with you though, as the nearest town is Ullapool which is approx 20 miles away. We would definitely stay in this home again when we are next in the area.
