“I would seriously recommend this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

My partner and I booked a New Year Stay at Wildside Highland Lodges for a relaxing get away over the festive period. Having looked at Wildside we decided to give it a go, as 99.9% of reviews were good. We were not disappointed, Wildside Lodges are absolutely amazing. I could not praise them enough for how the place is maintained and presented. We arranged our arrival for 5.00pm but actually got there at 3.30pm but the lodge was already prepared and ready for us. We were greeted by Del, who just happens to be one of the nicest most friendly people you could meet, who showed us to our cabin (Wintergreen) and he showed us around and how things worked. The setting was perfect, it is a stunning area. Our plan was to spend New Years Eve in the hot tub with champagne but on 30/12 it broke down :-( luckily, Our Man Del, worked his miracles and got it working again. he did this in his own time aswell! What a bloke!!! Everything else was just perfection. It is based in the middle of nowhere but that said, it is only 30 minutes drive to Inverness, which has pretty much everything you need.I really cannot recommend this place enough. We managed to drive around 1600 miles in total over the 7 days but it was worth it. If you are looking for a change or just a relaxing break, look no further than Wildside. The other good thing is, the weather is nowhere near as bad as we though. We went planning for Antartica but didn't need it. You can leave your thermals at home :-) Cheers Del & Co your made our holiday exactly what we wanted :-) :-)

Having just recently returned from a long weekend with the girlfriend (we stopped in the eagle lodge) I cannot give enough praise for such a good time we had! It was peaceful, the views were great. The pictures we saw beforehand didn't really do the place justice! It is so much nicer! With me and my girlfriend having a long distance relationship, this was the perfect retreat to spend a few days together. If anything we became a lot closer over that weekend. Everything was provided from pots and pans to cups, tea and coffee. The kitchen was home from home! And the Hot Tub was just amazing! i really cant point out any negatives about our stay. We will be returning next year without doubt!

This was our second visit to the Lodges and we were not disapointed! The new hot tub was a welcomed extra! Not even the freezing cold could stop us giving it a whirl! The lodges were just as lovely as we had remembered, cosy, clean and set in the beautiful countryside.

The staff were very helpful and really made us feel at home. Would recomend it to anyone visiting Inverness.

We are really pleased that you enjoyed yourself enough on your first visit to Wildside for you to return to us again. We work really hard to maintain and improve upon the standards of the park and it is lovely to hear that you found your second visit to us as enjoyable as your first and that you found the new addition of a hot tub a relaxing and welcome extra!

We hope to welcome you to us again.

We have just returned from seven days staying in the Partridge (dalwhinnie) lodge and feel the need to write this review in recognition of how much we enjoyed our stay.

On our arrival we were given free roam to let ourselves into the lodge - previous holidays have led us to believe pictures tell a false story, however, this time the pictures definitely don't express how fantastic the lodges are. A thoughtful welcome tray is provided for arriving guests, incorporating tea/coffee and a bottle of local whiskey!

In the lodge we were amazed to see that we had been provided dishwasher tablets, milk, butter, cooking oil etc - as well as other items you may not expect in a self catering lodge such as hair dryer, iron, clothes airer, body lotions, shampoos, candles and wood for the first nights fire! I have read other reviews criticising the need to pay 2.50 for a bag of wood. Yes you will need a bag a day, and yes other lodges may provide this for free but in the scheme of things you are so well catered for in other areas this isn't a big ask.

Our only minor problem was the wifi coverage. It came as a blessing not to have mobile phone signal, but this did mean we needed the wifi to research walks etc. We could only get coverage in certain parts of the lodge which may cause problems if you were planning to stream films etc to watch on a night. However when we did pick up a signal the speeds were perfectly fine.

In terms of things to do we would recommend the walk to Foyers Falls (7-8 miles), the circular walk of Loch OIch (13 miles) and the climb of Meall Fuar-mhonaidh near Drumnadrochit, the later giving amazing views of Loch Ness from the peak! Urquart castle and Culloden are also well worth a visit, especially as being a bit closer to Inverness we managed to grab a Chinese from Oriental Choice which was top drawer!!

In all we loved our time away and the lodge was fantastic. We will definitely be looking to go again and highly recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Go for a big a lodge as possible - the dalwhinnie lodges are excellent and give you that bit of extr...

We are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope that you will return to us here at Wildside again in the future.

We have taken on board your comments about the strength of the Wi-Fi signal and are currently looking at ways to boost the signal of it to enable all of our guests to have access to the internet without the problems that you experienced.

Many Thanks

My husband and myself spent 4 nights at Wildside in Red Deer and wow what a treat! the small site of about 16 lodges and the reception building mean its really quiet and private without thousands of people running around. Our lodge was right on the stream and looked out across it to the farmland and mountains beyond.
The hot tub on the Veranda was perfect for the cold, clear winter nights and despite the lights not working in it it was best with them off to see the stars.
The lodge itself was lovely and welcoming with a well stocked kitchen of everything you could need with handy milk and butter for your arrival as well as the little touch of shortbread biscuits, whiskey and fresh flowers. Perfect enough space for two of us although the spare single room did help, doubling up as a space for the bags, walking boots, shopping etc. Could have been a bit messy otherwise! The woodburner was great when it got going and kept the lodge a bit too warm!
The wealth of information and walks in the folder and at reception helped us plan out various days perfectly and was really appreciated. the staff on site were so helpful, meeting us at our lodge to give a quick overview of how the hot tub and the fire etc... all worked and they popped in to check a problem with the heating we reported and sorted it whilst we were out.

Best to take most of your supplies with you though as there isn't a local shop and the local pub looks good but isn't open all day as we found out when wanting a pint on our way back from a walk!!

We will be going back next year without a doubt, but may opt for a slightly bigger lodge next time.

One recommendation is to go to the reindeer centre. a bit of a drive but so worth it!!!

Room Tip: Book early if you want the stream view from your lounge and hot tub. There aren't many that offe...

We stayed in Pheasant for 1 week (sleeps 6) and it was just wonderful. We had no hot tub but a lovely jacuzzi instead.
Loved the leather sofa and wood burning stove. 4 of us had loads of space and plenty of privacy with 2 bathrooms. It felt like luxury walking in.
On the negative:
I do think wood should be offered for free - much cheaper places have wood included. You need a bag per day (at £2.50) and if you don't plan ahead you get caught short with nowhere nearby to get any, as the office isn't manned all day. If I could ask for anything more it would be to have better pillows and a bigger bed!
We did lots whilst we were there and the Lock Inn (Fort Augustus) is the best pub/food we found and we tried various. The Whitebridge Hotel was pretty good (yummy curry) and good to be able to walk to.
This holiday was such a treat - no mobile reception unless you walked to the pub, which meant you really switched off. The sun shone, the scenery breathtaking and the lodge was very, very nice! Thank you!

Room Tip: Go for bigger than you need to give you some privacy.

just returned from another brill stay at these lodges, changed a little from my last stay, you now have to buy your firewood, I add this as I have told a lot of friends about wildside and said you got free wood for log burner so just keeping my self right lol. This visit we stayed in the red deer lodge which I actually preferred as the views were stunning whilst sitting in your hot tub. The lodge was immaculate and comfortable apart from seating in lodge at night, if there was three people in the lodge the seating area would be very uncomfortable, this is the only thing the rest was brill. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, I would definitely recommend wildside and will definitely return. A sorry to the staff I had no pen to fill in evaluation sheet but thanks for the great stay.

Room Tip: Red deer lodge very private.
