Owner description: We provide information and interpretation on the history of the Caledonian Canal, as well as an activities booking service and gift shop. Come and learn about the canal, sign up for some canoeing, whitewater rafting or canyoning, and take home some unique souvenirs made by Scottish designers and manufacturers. We have maps and information on how you can travel along the length of the Caledonian Canal, or the Great Glen Way between each of the stopping-off points, how long it will take, facilities, etc. The canal and lock gates outside our door make up the living museum which is the Caledonian Canal.

“Pretty fascinating”
Reviewed July 19, 2014 via mobile

A great piece of engineering. It jut so happened that as we were walking around that 3 boats were coming up it so we stood and watched this invention in action. It was seeing these locals sit in their boat and (very!) slowly work their way up the canal. It was cool seeing the gates open and see the water rush down lift the boats up.

“A glimpse of history”
Reviewed July 8, 2014

The Caledonian Canal is a marvellous example of 19th century engineering by Telford, set in some of Scotland's best scenery. This little visitor centre gives a enlightening glimpse into the life of the canal.

Reviewed June 21, 2014

Car park next to the tourist information place costs 1 pound fir the day. Toilets are free but ask for 20 p donation, we were lucky and saw two boats going up the locks. Chatty locksman. Nice place to sit and watch the world go by.
