This is by far the best place we stayed in while touring Scotland the rooms were clean, beds comfy the staff were all friendly and the food was absolutely lovely a wide choice for breakfast and their great sandwiches for lunch and the evening meal was wonderful, stayed here 3 nights and ate in the Brassier room each night - would most definately return to this Hotel again if we were in Scotland

So nice! Great that it is eco friendly and has even won some awards. It was handy to the village. easy parking. Great breakfast. We forgot some luggage and they were most helpful helping us to retirieve it.

Room Tip: I don't think you can miss in this hotel

Our stay at The Lovat was absolutely fine and definitely had that that inconsistent, erratic, poorly managed staff feel about it - Faulty Towers with friendly staff for sure!
Our room was fine, dinner in the restaurant was nice and tasty, some meals and tastes much better than others! Service was friendly but clumsy at times, lacked refinement.
Beds FAR too small for two people, smallest doubles ever! Lack of good TV channels too.
Breakfast was a farce, a definite scene from Faulty Towers. Staff come and go in disarray, maintaining their friendliness but very poor service management. Took 45 mins to get our porridge and breakfasts. They did apologise but still very poor. Then the breakfasts arrived some were missing the sausage others were not and so on - quality management needs introduced at this hotel. Clumsy again.
Hotel forgot the morning papers they offered us at check-in and the wake-up call never happened either - thank heavens the walls are paper thin and we got woken in the morning - exhausted after trying to sleep in the double bed.
A firm staff training plan needs implemented with quality management checks daily, could be so much better.
Cheese selection at dinner (£8.95) was boring, tasteless, unimaginative and overpriced - disappointing. I expected much more for the money here!

Room Tip: If there is two of you - ensure a KINGsize bed here!

Thanks for your comments, which some I do agree with.

Smallest doubles – yes, they are the smallest available – 4.6ft bed – although we actually upgraded your bedrooms into super king beds in the hotel you specifically requested the Studios. At some point in the future we will look to increase the bed size.

TV channels – we have SKY Freeview which offers more than 100 channels. We feel this is ample as most of our guests are here to enjoy the area rather than sit & watch TV. We do also offer a DVD service for our guests because movies are not readily available in the bedrooms.

Breakfast – this can be a busy service with us having to be responsive to customer needs. We bring hot items from the kitchen after cereals are finished by the guest. It is my understanding from the team that the staff were waiting for you to finish your cereals before bringing the porridge. I have checked the CCTV and see that you waited 20mins for your hot breakfasts. Mistakes do happen and the sausage was forgotten off one of the breakfast but brought on a separate plate moments later, with an apology.

The Team – yes, we do have some staff undergoing training...but you have to remember that they have to start somewhere and I would much rather that they trained with a smile & friendliness than with no interest at all. When staff are new and it is busy, if a customer shows irritation this can often cause them to doubt themselves and their abilities. Hopefully you have found the irony in likening us to Faulty Towers.

Cheese – we offer 4 Scottish cheeses with some apple & grape chutney – cheese is expensive and I am not sure how we can make the dish more imaginative because I personally like my cheese unadulterated. Can I ask if you informed the staff at the time because I am sure they would have looked into the ‘tasteless’ matter immediately.

Morning Papers & Wake Up Call – we have no note of a wakeup call or newspaper request so I can only apologise if we failed to provide a service we had committed to. We offer complimentary newspapers in the reception & breakfast room or can purchase a guest’s own newspaper from the shop on their behalf. If you had re-informed us on the morning we would have popped to the shop straight away. We don’t offer a wake up service since the telephone in each bedroom has this facility.

We have a solid staff training plan in place with quality management – we are however working on our guest training plan but this is proving a little more tricky...

Lovely hotel, comfy bed, clean rooms, excellent staff and fab food. We had a lovely if unexpected one night stay but we we're disappointed, we then ate in the brasserie which was divine and not over priced. The the hotel was recommended to us after a accommodation nightmare we're so glad they did it was lovely thanks for making us feel so welcome.

Room Tip: Ask for a loch view, even the standard rooms have them room 23 was lovely for a standard room.

We stayed in a family room with a king bed and two lounge chairs that pull out into single beds. Although the room was cosy, it was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was quite large and well equipped. On check in we were shown to our room and although there was tea and coffee facilities in the room, we were told we could enjoy tea and coffee in the sitting room adjacent to reception. We received tea and hot chocolate (no charge) which was a lovely touch, and we were able to enjoy it while relaxing by the open fire in a gorgeous room, complete with grand piano. This hotel has some impressive sustainability aims and achievements. Worth reading what they have already accomplished. Service for dinner and breakfast was excellent and the quality of food was great. On check out we were even given some cookies for our travels. We all felt like valued customers and we would certainly return to The Lovat when we next visit Scotland.

We recently stopped at the Lovat as we were competing on the Scotland Coast to Coast. Unfortunately I had fractured my leg in training and was hobbling about with a huge air boot and a grumpy face. The staff were smart, polite and extremely professional and nothing was too much trouble. Fortunately there was a lift in the building so negotiating the stairs was not a problem and the room was adequately sized to accommodate me moving about with the air boot. We had both our lunch and evening dinner in the Brasserie, and I have to say, the food was delicious and excellent value for money so a huge thank you to the "chef". My husband's trail shoes had got wet the previous day and the staff offered to take them to the drying room ensuring they were nice and toasty the following day. The bedroom was clean and well decorated with nice little touches such as an umbrella in the wardrobe. Unfortunately we could not get the Sky TV to work even though we followed the instructions, but we were so tired it didnt really matter. I also feel I have to comment on the Lovat's committment to energy and sustainability and read the booklet in the room with great interest - working in the construction industry I understand the importance of making environmental decisions, which are not always the cheapest option, to commit to what you believe in - well done! All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we would definitely go back - nice to visit an independent chain that sets very high standards.

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel and couldn't have asked for friendlier staff and we were able to check-in earlier than the usual check-in time which was fantastic. Breakfast was very good and just what we needed to start off our days. Would stay here again.
