I had the honor and pleasure of staying at the Lovat during my 2011 Scotland ancestral pilgrimmage and Loch Ness trip, and it was one of the reasons why the Scotland trip was my most awesome and memorable vacation ever. Great decor, comfortable rooms, delightfully friendly staff, and delicious food, particularly the Scottish breakfast (had my first-ever taste of haggis!) and seafood dinners. Also a conveninent distance from the boat cruise and the local shops and restaurants. I definitely recommend it if you're diong a tour of Loch Ness!

We stayed in the 'annex' accomodation at the Lovat...really great room, and wet room, very comfortable, very clean, very relaxing. The staff are very friendly, and nothing is too much bother for them. We felt the room cold when we first arrived, but we were given a heater, and the room was as warm as toast in no time. We didn't need the heater after that, as the heating was more than enough. Lovely underfloor heating. We had a lovely dinner on the first night, and two wonderful Full Scottish breakfasts...beautifully cooked, and a very wide choice...we would have had dinner on the 2nd night too, but we had a family 90th birthday party to go to. The staff are very welcoming, very attentive. We would not hesitate in returning to the Lovat...a lovely weekend stay. The hotel provides the widest information of 'what to do' of any hotel we have ever stayed in. The Lovat is also a very Eco friendly hotel. We would not hesitate in recommending the Lovat to anyone. All in all, a wonderfully relaxing stay at the Lovat.

. Fort Augustus is well worth a visit and I recommend a boat trip on Loch Ness. I had prebooked room on the top floor. Well laid out with good lighting. Very impressive bathroom which even had a TV in the wall above the bath[ a first since MGM Signature in Las Vegas] Checked in by a chatty pleasant young lady. They have made obvious efforts to modernise an old building and it shows. The staff without exception were friendly and efficient. The evening meal with the exception of my wife`s choice of tasteless soup was very well presented and tasty. All in all this was a good choice . Would certainly return.

Room Tip: go for the top floor for view.

Many thanks for taking the time to write on TripAdvisor, it is greatly appreciated.

Soup - it is disappointing to learn of a bland soup...can you recall exactly what it was so we can pinpoint the issue?

love everything about this hotel, its peaceful, great food, lovely staff.
Love the annex rooms, warm and cosy.
The sustainability of the hotel is second to none, they have just fitted an even bigger bio mass boiler.
A lovely touch to get a cookie upon departure.
Well done to Caroline & staff for a fabulous hotel, can't wait to come back again.

Room Tip: Personally i prefer the outside rooms, you can park right outside your door, and you dont disturb ot...

We were on a charity kayak challenge and after 25 kilometres of paddling i was looking forward to a nice place to stay. I was worried when given a room in the annex (what looks like a long garage with about 5 front doors USA motel style.) but neednt have worried as the room was fantastic. Well furnished, all the amenities you would require as well as a roomy wet room/shower room ideal for hanging wet clothes separate to the bedroom. all very modern and well maintained with a very environmentally friendly view in their running of the hotel.
i only stayed bed and breakfast but the breakfast set me up for the day so much so i didnt need to eat until an evening meal.
So pleased i booked for 2 nights as i had a very relaxing stay and sleep after some very strenuous effort. many Thanks.

Room Tip: I would suggest if walking or an activity based stay, the annex allows more independance and has ple...

We stayed one night at the lovat and really enjoyed it. We had a room in the annex which was totally ok. We could park our car right in front of the room like in a motel. The room was pretty and clean. It was obvious that the hotel really took care of being sustainable. There was a folder with plenty information about their efforts. The pens for example were made out of recycled CDs. I really liked that as sustainability is an important issue. Breakfast was also very tasty. When we checked out we got a cookie as a good bye present, which was very thoughtful.

Stayed here for two nights with our dog. It was a Christmas surprise for me and I wasn't disappointed. The room was outside in the annexe, which was perfect for the dog. It was warm and cosy, with comfortable bedding and bed.
We ate in the restaurant for both nights and the food was excellent. As a vegetarian, I really appreciated the choice there was and didn't get fobbed off with pasta. Both my partner and I could not find fault with the food, either at dinner or at breakfast.
Would recommend this hotel -good walking in the area and we also took a boat trip out to see Nessie.
Hotel staff made us feel very welcome - nothing appeared to be too much trouble.
