“First hostel Experience”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

It was my very first stay in a Hostel and to be honest I wasn't too sure what to expect, however we were absolutely delighted with our stay at Morag's. The accomodation is flexible enough to cater for different group sizes and budgets, but as it was just the two of us we opted for a double room with private bathroom.

It was the end of September 2013 and there was a 'bit of a chill' in the air, but on arrival we noticed that Morag's had the heating on in the public areas - there was a lovely warm, cosy feel about the place.

Our room was clean and warm, the bed was comfortable and the power shower the next morning was wonderful.

We opted to dine in for both dinner and breakfast, but there is a self catering kitchen if you want to do your own thing. As it was a Sunday night we had a wonderful Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and the continental breakfast the next morning was lovely.

There were a couple of Haggis tours in and 4 'retired' Munro baggers cooking there own so we opted to eat our dinner in the bar with a 'light refreshement'

There are lots of comfy big sofas dotted about to 'surf the net', chat to (new/old) friends or to read quietly.

What I enjoyed about Morag's was the relaxed air that it had about it, the staff were friendly and helpful and even though it was busy we thoroughly enjoyed our stay...

Morags Lodge staff was always on hand and very nice. The rooms were clean and cozy. The sheets were clean and the comfiest bed I've slept in in a hostel yet. The location was great - we walked to Loch Ness and had a picnic dinner there. The village is nice and has a good grocery store at the gas station with plenty of options. The bar at Morags has good drinks and fun events like pub quiz night. Would definitely recommend Morags and would stay there again!

Stayed here as I walked the Great Glen Way recently. I was very pleased with what I found here, very friendly welcome and my room (a 4 bed dorm) was en-suite, plenty of room plus the bunk beds had individual lights on each of them (like on busses) and each bed has sockets built into the bed just above the headboard to charge up your phone, so no having to fight over a single socket in a room with 4 people in it, fantastic. The beds even have USB sockets for charging too.

The lounge is very relaxing, free wifi and there is a bar also and vending machine. I didnt cook there but the kitchens looked clean and tidy. I had breakfast in the morning (£3.20) and helped myself to boiled eggs and many slices of toast and jam to fill me up.

To sum the place up, a very nice place with nice people in charge. the place was very busy when I was there with people all ages, but it didn't feel overcrowded. I will be staying again here soon and looking forward to it.

Room Tip: Some rooms are unisex so make sure you ask at reception whether there will be people of the opposite...

I stayed for 2 nights with a couple tour groups from Haggis Tours. It was rustic, clean and super warm which was a great thing in the cold and wet highland weather. The staff were very friendly and I was surprised by the good room rate, warm rooms, delicious dinners and "nightlife". Yep, I said nightlife. They have a bar and they brought in local musicians who taught us traditional Scottish folk dancing to the sounds of bag pipes and an accordion. Their common rooms had big comfy leather couches and TVs/DVDs to choose from which was nice after a long day of walking. This is my blog post about it, with pictures: http://bit.ly/16xJ0nC

It was clean and had space to move around in. Had common area that had comfortable couches and the area had places close by to explore. Over all it was very good. People there were friendly, which made it enjoyable.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a Haggis tour. The location is great, the wifi worked well, and the dinners were really realllly good. The hostel is mainly full of (mostly) young backpackers on Haggis tours, at least when we went in the summer high season, and is actually owned by the same parent company as Haggis Adventures. I thought it was perfect for young backpackers who are looking to have a good time, it has a great bar with activities every night, and it's definitely for a more social backpacker. If that isn't you, though, this might not be the place for you-- if I was looking for a quiet night I would not have found it here. However, we had a great time at the bar and being social. We had a double room, and I guess most rooms have ensuite bathrooms but ours did not-- and there was only one bathroom/shower we could find in the halls. This made it difficult when other people decided to use it. The beds were also really hard, and you couldn't open the windows at night because the bugs would come in and bite you. However, these didn't matter too much to us because the atmosphere was so fun and active.
