Owner description: This imposing old fort, which was incorporated into the Benedictine Abbey in 1876, is bisected by the Caledonian Canal, where to the north the canal enters the famous Loch Ness and into the village itself through a series of locks.

The gateway to Loch Ness not so busy in April but probably a massive Tourist attraction during the warmer summer months. Easily accessible, small quaint village, HQ for Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal. Superb country life and stunning views. Friendly people, nice restaurants and pubs.

Very convenient and quite charming. Very friendly people! Everything closes quite early so plan ahead...

It's a great place to stop when travelling, or a good base to stay when exploring the area. It's got a bit of charm about it, and even if you don't like boats, to watch the canal locks working is a treat - particularly when the road moves to the side - kids of all ages love it! It's also got some really nice places to eat and people are friendly.

We stayed in Old School 10 apartment. The location was beautiful, views of the canal and lovely grounds down to the loch. The apartment was comfortably furnished with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, dishwasher, washer/ dryer and microwave. Lots of character with the beautiful old windows of the school and quirky 2 levels between the rooms.

Our hostess kindly left us with a bottle of wine and shortbread on arrival' alongside basics such as tea and milk and delightful local toiletries. Only downsides were the small pool in the complex and tiny poorly equipped gym ( hence no photos). Otherwise a fab apartment that we would definitely recommend.
