Owner description: This imposing old fort, which was incorporated into the Benedictine Abbey in 1876, is bisected by the Caledonian Canal, where to the north the canal enters the famous Loch Ness and into the village itself through a series of locks.

Attempted to buy coffee and cake here in two separate cafes and failed. I can't think of the name of either of them but one was in the boathouse by the Abbey. Perhaps the waiters are just too fed up of the constant custom brought by visitors to care, but some places in Scotland would give their eye teeth for the kind of business generated here. My advice to tourists is share your cash with the smaller, out of the way places with warm friendly folk and gorgeous produce and baking. There are plenty of other canal locks around.

Enjoyed the calm and beautiful sight where Caledonian canal meets the Loch Ness. You can make a boat trip and enjoy canoeing from here and also it all depends on the weather. I travelled here yesterday fantastic weather and fantastic place.

Well worth a visit or stay, friendly people and enough to see and with the Loch and the locks!

We felt it was too crowded. Lot's of tourist busses despite the relatively smallness of the town. So quite dominating.
We hiked along the Great Glen Way from Invermoriston. Took about three hours including lunch stop. We came on a sunday, Planning to take a return trip by bus, but it drives very seldom, so we ended up hitch hiking back. Approx 10 min drive with a very nice young French couple.

Lovely place to watch the world go by. Liked watching the boats the canal. Boat trips on loch Ness are available foe £12.50 per person. There are also r.i.b boat trips. Lovely little ice-cream shop (orange chocolate chip flavour excellent!)
