My husband and I took a thirty min ( approximate) rib tour of Loch Ness late in the afternoon last September. We arrived without having pre-booked and had our choice of either the rib or a slower double-decker boat. We asked the opinion of the staff and they all said that the rib was a lot more fun. I'm glad that we did it!
They suited us up with life jackets and protective eye goggles. Admittedly, I was afraid of getting wet. It was a cold day (I'm from Los Angeles and can't handle cold!) and I didn't want to be wet too. I hardly got anything more than a few drops on me. It was great.
The ride is very bumpy and feels fast. It's an adrenaline rush.
Several times, our guide stopped to point out things and to tell us about the loch. I felt like he gave us a ton of information and presented it in an interesting manner. We went to the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition the following day and we had already gotten all of the info on this tour. He did a great job.
I wish that we had planned it in advance and gone on the longer- 1/2 day rib tour. It was so much fun, that I didn't want the tour to end. Do the longer tour, you won't regret it.
